On the 20th of December, twenty nine years ago, SoulEdge was released in Japan for the PlayStation.
Soul Edge (released outside Japan as Soul Blade) introduced the Soulcalibur series, featuring a roster of characters from different historical and fantasy backgrounds who battle using distinct weapons in a cinematic, arcade-style combat system, notable for its fluid movement, ring-out mechanics, and its dark central narrative revolving around the cursed sword Soul Edge, which drives warriors into conflict across a mythic version of the late 16th century.

And the winner is...
Yoshimitsu!
Here are some statistics about the bracket:
Yoshimitsu vs Xianghua received 54 votes, the most of any poll.
Ivy received 33 votes against Xiba, the most of any character in a single poll.
Sophitia was the most popular original Souledge character.
Yoshimitsu was the most popular Soulcalibur newcomer (duh).
Talim was the most popular Soulcalibur II newcomer.
Tira was the most popular Soulcalibur III newcomer.
Hilde was the most popular Soulcalibur IV newcomer.
Ashlotte was the most popular bonus character.
I'm not sure what--if anything--I'll do next on this blog, but thank you so much for participating in these polls!
