Strong granite walls seem to easily contain the raging river, keeping the chaotic meltwater on its spiraling downward path. Although the spring procession is as normal and reoccurring as any other seasonal feature, it is this metamorphosis of life giving water, that often captures my attention. A giant circular adventure; falling rain and snow, flowing creeks rivers and oceans, fluffy clouds that carry it on the drifting wind back to the mountains where it began. All these adventures of what is probably our most precious resource, leave their mark. From the natural; deep canyons cut in the land, erosion of soils, even flooding in places. To the unnatural; our own pollution, storage and direction, even people claiming rights and selling it to make a profit. How is it that something so important to our existence is thought of as a commodity to be bought and sold? ____________________________________ The cascades just above Leavitt Falls are always an amazing display, but in the spring melt, they become a furious gorge. I captured this image at a slightly slow shutter speed to let the fast moving water show a little bit of motion blur. Whipping around the tight bends of Sonora Pass, the sun drifting closer to the horizon, the snow covered peaks beginning to glow, this scene captures me. I quickly pull to the side of the road and step out, breathing in the fresh smell of spring in the high sierra, drifting on a cold breeze. What is it about these mountains that has me coming back over and over again, what happens in my mind when I'm among them? .
