//Twitter post again
(Sorry lol)
The original Twitter thread is small and w/o a lot of engagement, but I'm using excerpts from the comments as examples because I feel like it's important to say, in case someone needs to understand: This is conservative rhetoric that has harmed the LGBT+ community/movement for decades.
Conservatives will label the queer community (and other marginalized/dissenting groups) as "a vocal minority" to downplay what we express.
If you see people in a fandom space who say anything similar to this - and especially adding something along the lines of "giving into demands" - understand that this is charged rhetoric.
Purposefully.
I will not link to the original thread in this (ask privately), but it was in discussion of another Twitter account. For the record, I am aware of what happened with this account; I saw everything that went down, and imo, I do not believe that user was treated fairly.
Nevertheless, it's unfortunate that it appears the queerphobic (transphobic, specifically) side of the fandom seems to be trying to use what happened as an excuse to peddle their own stereotypes. Be aware of this. They are not honest in their framing of things, this is an opportunity for them to claim trans fans are being unhinged.
They want to "quiet" the "loud minority." They want to erase trans headcanons from the sonic fandom. Ask yourself why they want trans people to be unseen. Ask what keeping trans people away from children implies.
I brought this up because these are very overt sentiments.. I don't know if the choice phrases would be considered dogwhistles, but that might be because I'm just very aware of this shit.
