Born on Christmas Island to a couple like any other, Sonic was named after the name of the first airplane his father, Jules, ever flew. His mother, Bernadette, was a wonderful story writer and popular with the kids in the decently resolute village. He went to school like other children, but he was never the scholar type, mostly because of his lack of patience and hatred of restrictive spaces. He greatly disliked having to be forced to interact with other students as well, as he used to barely say a squeak back then. He was the definition of introverted and shy, which helped in making him known as the oddball of the small group of children who attended the diminutive school.

The one bit of school Sonic enjoyed was sports class, where he got to run around in open spaces as much as he wanted. He was oddly agile and swift, regardless of his then-pudgy frame. He was pushed to his extreme speeds one day during said period when he was invited to participate in a race by his supportive coach. Sonic caught the silent mocking from his classmates, which seemed to touch some sort of nerve that made him make him want to win above all else. The teacher said the count down, and not ten seconds later that the ‘three’ had been spoken, Sonic was at the opposite side of the track. He would’ve crossed his arms and looked smugly at the gawking bullies had he not been staring at the sizzling ground he had treaded.

Knowing this was anything but normal, Sonic’s parents took him to see a doctor. He explained to them as simply as he could that Sonic had somehow developed bones and legs that were far stronger than should be possible, and lighter than the norm too. He calmly told them that it was nothing to be worried about presently, as Sonic was healthy and was only made better by his mutation, but Bernie and Jules were still on edge.

Sonic, on the other hand, had come to welcome his gift with open arms once the fact registered. He ran every day and found so much joy in it that he became extremely fond of it. He didn’t care about what everyone said anymore, his self-confidence had been fed to the max by this discovery that he chose to ignore the comments and enjoy this. He still refused to hold conversations with anyone, however.

With a mother who loved to write, Sonic found himself enjoying the act as well. He absorbed the adventurous stories and became enthralled in them, playing pretend in his spare time as if he was an adventurer like the ones in the tales. Sonic only became more impatient and needing of open space. He became unhappier in school and his grades dropped even lower than they were before, only daydreaming during class about how he was going to break the sound barrier for sure today.

His father was called away to a foreign island one day to help in the building of a special project, or rather in trying out the project. Being every bit as reckless as his son, Jules jumped on the offer and asserted his wife that he was going ot be back soon.

He never came back.

Days after he was meant to come back, Bernadette received a call informing her that her husband had drowned in a failed take off. Once Sonic was told, his reaction to his grief was become even more introverted and more involved in his running. Freedom and running and adrenaline became the filling that occupied the vacant space his father had left, and he would’ve failed that school year had his mother not called him a tutor. Sonic wouldn’t have tried as much as he did then if it weren’t for the fact that he knew flunking would only make his broken mother feel worse. Regardless of his quiet way of being, he hated seeing others upset, especially his mom.

Things didn’t get any better as time went on. Sonic was eight years old when his father died, and nine when his mother followed his path due to sickness. He became snappy and picked up his short temper when he was dropped in a foster home. He ran whenever he wasn’t in school, and even then he became prone of skipping class. There were no parents to keep happy now, so he didn’t try. The only thing he knew was that he wanted to get out of this place he couldn’t call home anymore, he needed a bigger field to run in, he wanted complete freedom to help him cope, he needed the all-new wind blow against him, he needed the adventure he so loved in order to not deal with this grief he hated so much.

His coach, Jeff, was even more supportive during that year. He was, in fact, the one who gave Sonic that push to get out of Christmas Island and look for what he needed, knowing Sonic would only get better that way. After a year of gathering as much money as he could, Sonic took his father’s old plane, the Tornado, on his tenth birthday and left. He was taught how to pilot the machine at a younger age, and was meant to be a family heirloom.

Sonic toured the many different islands he came across, never settling down in one place but making sure to enjoy them all completely prior to flying off again. He explored and wandered to his heart’s content and learned to deal with his loss with due time, and did end up breaking the speed of sound. Nowadays it’s almost impossible to get him to talk about this all, especially with his ‘never look back’ mindset he acquired during this all. Life is short and today could be your last day, live it as the wonderful thing you can make it. However, this time of seclusion made him remain quiet.

It was a year later that Eggman made his first strike against the world, and becoming oddly enraged at the captivity of the Flickies due to how much freedom meant to him, Sonic went after him and found it was fun to bop the evil scientist on the head. The more fights he won against Eggman, the more his confidence grew and the nicer he became thanks to befriending the Flickies, though not much louder. Sonic picked up the act of hero, even though he was surprised to find being called that title made him feel somewhat flustered. Helping others feel better and be happier, i.e. helping the Flickies, made him realize all he needed was seeing others smile rather than being known as a big name. Though recognition was nice, humility and kindness had made their way into Sonic’s heart.

During one scuffle with Eggman, Sonic was thrown far enough by a bot to land on the ocean surrounding the beach they had been finding on. Suddenly reminded of the way his father bit the dust, the inability to run like he always could suddenly pressing utter panic into his chest only made worse by the memory of his parent. The thought that no one would get him out in time made his freeze and wan to scream in terror, which luckily didn’t end up being the case. He was saved by the Flickies and a group of Chao, but they didn’t get him out in time to avoid him picking up his aquaphobia.

Sonic landed on West Side Island a week after his twelfth birthday, where he was chased by a certain two-tailed fox cub. Being the recluse he was back then, Sonic ran ahead and chose to ignore him, up until he realized the fox was actually keeping up with him! They raced for a bit, which ended with Sonic going ahead and being lost by the kit. The next day the vulpine tried to get a look at the plane that Sonic was sleeping on. Both interrupted by an attack from Eggman, Sonic ran towards the affected area and was reflexively followed by the fox. Still impressed by the younger one’s ability, Sonic let the kid, who introduced himself as Miles, tag along and help him fight Robotnik after Miles insisted over and over.

The fox stuck around after they took care of Eggman, and Sonic found he was fond of the kid. He let the vulpine follow him, surprisingly, and the two became friends. Sonic even spoke to Miles the first time he saw the fox react negatively to thunder, and nicknamed him ‘Tails’ after the event. Originally Sonic used to see Tails as a prodige, but the more time went by the more Sonic grew to love the fox as a little brother. It was the fox who helped Sonic become more capable in the social aspect, since the kid was so clingy and often initiating hugs or chattering while Sonic listened and sometimes answered to. Having Tails around helped him open up more to the idea of having others around, and without him Sonic would probably be a social recluse still.

S3&K’s events happened here and were closely followed by CD, where Sonic met Amy and Knuckles respectively.  Sonic and Tails explored the world together and the two built a workshop for Tails in Mystic Ruins, and Sonic decided to stick around one place for a bit to look after Tails (which was somewhat of a struggle). Once Tails hit eight a year later though, Sonic realized he was very much capable to take care of himself.

boom! tails has known sonic practically his whole life. sonic was chasing eggman when he was led to an abandoned village, where an army of eggman robots had set mayhem lose. after getting rid of the lingering robots and feeling bad about not being there before the attack, little 10 year old sonic tried to help whoever he could, though being the tsundere he was back then, he didn’t stay long to chat.

when he was leaving after helping, he found tiny orphaned tails in a secluded corner of the village. boom! teenie sonic, who i hc has a soft spot for little kids, rushed to help. he tried to bring tails to the village, but tails struggled and begged to not be brought there. he told sonic how the people there had pushed him aside and left him in the streets because of his tails, and sonic found that he didn’t much care about not being there to stop the attack after that. tsundere as he was tho, he hid his concern and instead told tails that he woudl take him to another village to be taken care off. but by teh time he found one, he was already fond of tails

that’s when he found teh village they currently live in in boom!series. he left tails there, but came back a bit everyday for a visit, eventually even moving into the villagem though he never considered it a home. more like ‘tails is there and i’m staying until he gets older’ thing. besides, eggman had built his base in a nearby island and had a habit on picking on the residents there, so sonic stuck around to help with the doctor as well. (he started to train tails in fighting and eventually worked out strategies with him that were built around his flying capabilities. he did this to keep tails safe and for him to help, though a bit reluctantly) he did run out of the village very often though.

sonic met knuckles in one of these runs, an echidna who lived in the same village, though sonic never payed much mind to him. he met him while he was leaving the village, after knuckles had come back from saying hi to friendly animals in the forest. sonic had been initially annoyed by knuckles, and he couldn’t seem to shake him off. it proved to be for teh best, hoever, as one day knux saved sonic from a feral wolf. impressed by his strength and secretly grateful, sonic gave him a chance and found that knuckles was a blast to hang out with. he started to loosen up around him, become more fun loving and less reclusive. knuckles turned out to be a great support for raising tails for sonic, and a great guard for the fox. tails became annoyed of the protectiveness and claimed he could very well care for himself, but sonic didn’t play much mind to it.

then, sonic’s airplane crashed one day. his father had been the original owner of the aircraft, but he had passed away long ago. his father had been a great mechanic, though he hadn’t allowed sonic to fly the thing by himself even though he had many years of practice under his belt by teh time he was 10 (the age at which he lost his parents. his father drowned and his mother died of sickness years prior and left him his scarf). sonic had left knux with tails and decided to take the thing for a spin, feeling a bit too cooped up. many years of lack of practice (ever since he found the village by flight) came to bite him though, and he crashed. though the plane received minimal damage, sonic himself was thrown off the plane during the moment it spiraled, making him land in the water. he nearly drowned, not knowing how to swim, and the experience combined with his already existing dislike of water in general due to what happened to his father left a real big mental scar on him, and thus his aquaphobia came about. it’s gotten much better over the years, but sonic doesn’t like wide bodies of water still. 

what saved him from drowning there was a duo of strangers, amy and sticks. sticks had spotted him flopping about in the water before passing out and had fished him out, while amy tried to fix him up. they lived in a separate village, and they took him there.

upon waking up, sonic asked who they were and got an answer, to which he said that he appreciated the help but needed to go back to the village in case eggman was wreaking havoc. they accepted and started to lead him back, a journey that showed sonic that amy and sticks were cool friends and found he enjoyed their company.

after being taken back and finding both tails and knuckles missing, sonic lost his head momentarily before running out to find them. amy and sticks helped him out as well.

it was easier to track them down than expected, though not necessarily because they left tracks, but because it was hard to miss the roaring of an engine. sonic’s plane flew over their heads, and one chase later revealed that tails had fixed the airplane on his own. a shocked but relieved sonic then started to realize ‘wait. okay hear me out me. maybe he can do stuff on his own’ and he started to let tails roam a bit more free without having knuckles tag along.

amy and sticks went back home, only to return long after. eggman had found that the village that they lived in was built on top of an ancient ruin, and was destroying the houses that were in teh way to it. sonic, knuckles and tails tagged along to help them, and got rid of eggman. in the fight, however, eggman accidentaly ended up breaking the ruins and rendered his attack useless. no one had been aware that the village resided on top of the ruins, but the news traveled fast and many excavators wanted to get a peak at it, hoping to find some bit of surviving specimen. howver, with teh village itself destrpyed, tails thought of asking the mayor back in their own village if the few people in amy and sticks’ village could come live in their spare houses until everything was rebuilt. the mayor agreed, and the dozen or so homeless inhabitants got a home again. sonic tails and knux stayed behind to help rebuild stuff, and amy and sticks did the same while amy also helped with the excavation alongside her tutor, cliff. during this time, all the crew started to really get to know each other and became best friends. amy stayed and helped them until they did end up finding ruins that did survive, but were kept to the experts. they kept this all secret, in fear of getting attacked by eggman.

remember that lil village in rol? the one with cliff? yeah, that’s where amy n sticks lived, though teh village was relocated to actually be built closer to sonic knuckles and tails’ village, since the latter was also dreadfully small. the few people who stayed behind ar the ones who daily investigate the ruins.

initially, amy was going to stay behind in teh site permanently after finishing repairs, her love for archaeology pushing her towards trying ti become an expert in the field. her firneds reluctantly supported her, though sticks decided to stay with amy. 

sonic tails and knuckles went back home, where the fox started to worry that eggman might find out about the excavation and attack again. he built security traps and the like with a weapon for each in the ruins just in case. he flew there and dropped everything off, giving amy the hammer she has today. sticks had talked ot tails a while ago about how amy had taught her how to live within civilization and how sticks had in turn taught amy acrobatics. the fox made teh hammer light weight, thinking that it would probably fit amy’s fighting style to use a hammer and land quick yet powerful strikes before jumping and landing another.

he came back and life went on as normal, until an archaelogist came in with flailing arms and begging for help. eggman had attacked again, and the team was off to stop him again.

heavy wip, and if i dont wanna make this stpry plot heavy-ish, it’ll just reach until amy stays behind to help with the digging until i can figure out the rest
