33. If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?
31. I prefer writing fics that are 40K+ because it feels like I can get a good pacing and a full plot. It's also more fulfilling when I reach the end of one of those fics. Ideally, anything 40-100K is preferred, whatever works best with the story.
32. I'll read anything over 3K... but I'll admit I mostly enjoy stories that are 20K+ 😅 I have trouble getting invested in short fics. My ideal length is over 50K, but probably under 300K? Unless the world building is really fun or interesting, in which case... gimme as many words as you've got.
33. Ideally I like to keep my chapters 3-6K. Anything shorter and it feels like I haven't progressed the plot (or am rushing), any longer and I feel like it might be too long for some readers. But I've posted chapters that are 2K before, though it's rare, and I've written chapters that are 11K, so... I don't follow my own rules 😅
When reading, I prefer a 3K minimum. I like to sit down and enjoy my reading time, and anything lower feels too short because it's over quickly. I don't have a maximum length, though - if a chapter is a behemoth, or if someone dropped a 40K oneshot, I'll just break up my reading sessions if I don't have the time to get to all of it in one sitting.
