Itās all about des pieds et des pouces
Iāve seen a post saying the Popsicle was sold out in just 15min, reminding me the drop was out. I went to re-inc website just to take a look, I checked the cut off tee, and tumbled on that :Ā
Seeing Tobinās height made me wonder if I was taller than her ... And it brought me back to all my interrogations on the users of the non-metric system.
As a French person, Iām totally lost with the metrics used in the imperial system. And itās always funny when an American or British person ask meĀ āHow tall are you ?ā and I say ā1,73mā. I could saidĀ ā8 carrots and 2 potatoesā it would be the same. The thing is, I know 1 inch = 2,54 cm ; because I learned it during my physics courses, but Iām still incapable to spontaneously tell you my height using the imperial units. Of course, Iāve used a converter, and now I know that IāmĀ 5 feet and 8.1102 inches (5ā²8ā³ I guess ?), but no idea how many inches there are in a foot ... Like, could someone be 5ā²16ā³ ? Is that even making sense ?
So, if someone out there masters both systems and is willing to share some tips (if there are any) with me : Hit me up :) Iāll be glad to learn something here !
In conclusion :
It seems that Iām taller than Tobin, and that is kind of a surprise to me ^^
Donāt even get me started on °C and °F. During my trip to the US, watching the weather report was more confusing than useful to me
My mind has gone waaay to far from just seeing Tobinās height
Urban jungles, delivered.
āThere is something within us that instinctively craves closeness to nature in times of stress.ā
Ā āI didnāt really articulate it to myself until about six years ago...and then I realised Iād been thinking about it under the surface for a long time,ā she says. āWhenever the future is anxious or uncertain, natureās regenerative powers are stabilising.āĀ
āStuart-Smith says the basis for our attachment to plants is primal, embedded within us from the early stages of evolution. āThe way our hunter-gatherer ancestors related to the world was as much about the non-human elements of the world, including plants, as it was about humans,ā she says. āThey couldnāt survive if they didnāt develop a close understanding of plants and other animals.ā That affinity for plants is still within us. Itās scientifically proven that the colour green is restful to people, because it makes us feel safe. āAll the evolutionary explanation for biophilia [the love of plants] is that green vegetation and flourishing landscapes were a signal that you were in a place that would sustain life.ā The sight of healthy green life tells our brain that we are somewhere we can thrive.ā
āWhen I talked to the prisoners on Rikers Island (a jail complex in New York), for them gardening was a chance to enter into a nurturing relationship. Theyād never had a nurturing relationship that had been good.ā
āA key thing Stuart-Smith identified was that plants help us process pain and sadness because they are alive but have no feelings of their own. There is a sort of emotional neutrality to plants, which calms us. There is, she says, āno risk a plant will say the wrong thing.ā And of course, plants exist on their own terms. As Stuart-Smith succinctly puts it, āthe pace of life is the pace of plants...Caring for a plant forces us to exist in the moment.ā You cannot rush a plant into flowering or growing new leaves, you can only encourage it. It will always move at its own speed. When so many things are out of our control, plants show as that life goes on and beautiful things will still happen, in their own time.ā
This is something I need to learn how to do again. Iāve lost my happiness and now itās time to gain it back. Itās not too late to learn how to be happy again and love myself.
