He’ll never again be bound by serpentine wires. He’s free to wield kunai and throw shuriken, to run alongside comrades, to travel far and wide during their assignments. If you don't mind reading on a different platform, there are five more chapters posted on Ao3. Posting on fanfiction.net gives me anxiety, I've received hateful messages on there in the past but can't bring myself to delete my stories off of it either.

Here's the next chapter. I'm planning to finish writing the rest after I complete another story in a different fandom.

Thank you to everyone who's here because of Something Left to Save. Everything about this journey has surprised me. How warmly I was welcomed into the fandom despite being so late to the party. The encouragement and excitement for my take on the Blank Period. How not a single person has ever once complained about my inconsistent update schedule, but instead thanks me every time I do update. How patient everyone is with the slow burn; that people are seemingly genuinely happy to see the team dynamics and minor characters too.

I'm especially thankful for the heartfelt solidarity on how I've explored overlooked, underdeveloped characters. We [the 'girls, gays and theys'] deserved so much better. It's been joyful and it's been healing for me to see so many people relating to and/or appreciating Sakura in this story.

Then Tsunade steps down, Kakashi becomes the Rokudaime, and he is once again her superior. I’m not sure how I went from getting vicious hate mail on fanfiction.net to these kind reviewers on Ao3 for the same story, but it’s really motivating and reminds me about all the good, joyful parts of fandom experience. 🥰
