It is Record Store Day and I purchased 1 of 1500 copies of Some Something / Every Everything - The Life and Times Of Grant Hart (The famed drummer of Husker Du)So we are on the same page, I never hated Husker Du, but until recently I was just a casual listener. Yes, their punk sound and ethic is one of legend , but I was neutral about them . I started listening to them because of a Grant Hart solo record (The Argument). A friend kept on talking about them and this is a friend who recommended some of the best new music I have ever heard, some of the worse new music imaginable and had a sincere dislike for some music I consider holy.
From the director who brought you the complete genius of Color Me Impressed comes another music documentary -Every Everything-The Life and times of Grant Hart. The documentary doesn't make a star of Grant, it makes him a living legend who doesn't realize it. I believe what I enjoy most is that it avoids the most sensational aspects of Grant and discusses them like 2 adults would- in other words, you feel like Grant and you are friends. It doesn't discuss anything the media would make the headline, but rather it is a conversation with a guy about his work who has some sensational things about him and his life . I really felt like I made a new friend at the end of the film and that is what a film about someone is supposed to do - make you like them . This is a documentary that will change the way other biographical documentaries are made - it makes you care about Grant Hart, care like you would about a friend. Sure, we can go into the legend that is Grant Hart, but why ? You should see this documentary because when someone leads a life worth talking about and they do without pretense, it should be seen. NOW-the bonus record store day release Some Something- PERFECT. You have to see the film to understand WHY it is perfect. The package is special because it flows , well, perfectly. The music makes the film make more sense and the film makes the music make more sense. I realize how ridiculous that sounds, but it makes sense to me. The film is perfect, when it comes out on DVD/ Blu Ray BUY IT and watch it - a punk legend is showing you how to be a punk legend
