Starter for @soldierheartcd

Teddy had been awake for hours, which was unlike her on her days off. Usually, she slept in at least a little bit, catching up on sleep that her body needed. But days like this never let her sleep very long. Delia had a cardio appointment today to check on how her heart was doing. It’s not like Teddy checked it whenever she could without being overbearing. These days always made her anxious. What if something was wrong? What if they found she had VHL like Henry did? What if, what if, what if. 

her answer was the same he would give if he was being honest with himself. going through something like this was never easy, especially not when it was a little kid involved. that was the one thing tuck could never deal with well - losing a child. it was one of the reasons he’d gone into this job to begin with: he wanted to be able to help people. not be the one who couldn’t be the hero.

“me neither,” he finally answered. “calls like these ... they’re the ones i hate the most.” 

desensitization did happen, but when it came to losing someone - not even just the young ones, anyone - it was rough. they were supposed to help and when they couldn’t, it at least made tuck feel as though he wasn’t good enough. as if he shouldn’t be in this job.

“our shift’s almost over. let me take you out for a drink?” he knew they could both use one right now.

she wonders,  typically on a daily basis,  what she’d done to deserve a daughter like this.  so perceptive,  and kind,  and  ---  well,  delia’s difficult sometimes,  but what kid isn’t?  she’d never had the chance to meet her dad,  and teddy’s sure her stories of henry don’t do him justice.  teddy’d been widowed too soon;  too tragically,  but she’s got a hell of a something to remember her husband by,  doesn’t she?  

arms wrap around her daughter’s shoulders,  head moving to rest gently atop delia’s as teddy offers a smile despite the knowledge that it won’t be seen.   “we do,”   she confirms,  gently,   “you’ll always have me,  no matter what.  i promise.”   it’s a hefty promise to make.  grey-sloan seems to see more tragedy and catastrophe than any other hospital she’s heard of  ---  and teddy can’t even pretend to know what the future holds but....   “i sure do love you,”   the words are a whisper,  and the hug tightens just a little,  head moving only to press a soft kiss to the top of delia’s head before returning to its last position,   “and i’m grateful for you every second of every day,”  

       The tone behind the question caused Delia to stop short, freezing where she stood. Half of her wanted to turn around and flee in the other direction, but the other half of her knew that it was no use. If she hadn’t been seen already, she surely would be before there was enough time to turn on her heel. “Am I interrupting? I can come back later. I don’t mind.” Announcing her presence seemed like the only viable option.

          Addison rolled her eyes at Alex, who was storming out of the room they´d been standing in. Well this was growing great. Now she was also faced with the other woman, who looked quite like a deer caught in the headlights. Addison sighed as she heard the door fall shut and shook her head.

     Alex made his way into the gallery and forced an intern in the front row up so that he could have a clear view of Meredith’s surgery. She was about to break the hospital’s record for longest surgery. again. It wasn’t surprising so much as a combination of impressive and irritating at this point. He glanced over at the blonde seated beside him, the only person in the gallery that wasn’t an attending besides the intern he’d just moved to the back. “How’d you end up with a front row seat to a groundbreaking surgery?” Curious eyebrows raised as he watched her over a drink of his coffee.
