It was real to me HAHAHAHA, honestly this was a fun experience writing, I've read a lot fics in which Diana appears so i wanted to do my take on it honestly. I hope y'all liked and I also hope this doesn't make anyone cry from how bad it was. Also if you want to be tagged in any of my future works please let me know.
The bright stage lights marked a beautiful contrast with the dark cold night, the noise from the fans outside, accelerating, despite the fact that tonight wasnât one of your concerts. You could feel the adrenaline in you starting to run through just from the anticipation from seeing your boyfriend perform out there. You loved seeing Michael perform, there were no words to describe it. As of now you were waiting for him to come out of the dresser and him getting ready to show up on stage. Well not before having your little moment with him in which you hugged and looked each other in the eyes.Â
The little trance you were in was abruptly interrupted by the voice of someone whom you disliked.Â
âOh well hello there, I didnât know you were coming here to see Mike.â Diana said with a polite fake smile plastered on her face as she looked you up and down with her eyes, a subtle gesture you knew too well. âWell, why wouldn't I be here? I am Mickeyâs girlfriend afterall.â You said as you looked at her in the eye with a tight lip fake smile on your face as you tried to contain every ounce of you from pouncing on her. You knew who the woman was and what she meant to Michael, you also knew about some of the weird relationship âmentor-apprenticeâ dynamics that they had. âYeah, thatâs right⌠I just keep forgetting that you are.â How that line made your blood boil, you shook your head softly as you were about to open your mouth and say a comeback, Michael saw both of you from afar and decided that it was the moment to approach both of you.Â
âSweetheart,âMichael said as he looked at you with a smile and kissed your cheek, and then he looked at her. âDiana,â he smiled softly and she reciprocated with the sweetest smile known to man. âHi Mike,â you almost scoffed when you heard her sultry tone as she looked at Michael with a fire behind her eyes. You couldnât help but look at Michael and then at Diana, the heaviness in your chest had started to grow. âWell I gotta get back to the tent, I canât miss any little detail of your performance, dear.â Diana said keeping up the sultry tone in her voice as she placed her hand briefly in Michaelâs arm, you couldnât help but keep your eyes on her hand. She made her way out of the backstage and towards where the tent was, you couldn't help but let your eyes follow her with a small frown in your face, what you failed to notice was that Michaelâs eyes had done the same thing too.Â
The expression on your face changed as you turned to look at Michael trying to keep the thoughts out of your mind, keeping everything at bay. Michael looked at you with sweet eyes and a smile so bright that couldâve melted any other, he wrapped his arms around tightly before he placed his forehead against yours. The silent bubble burst the moment one of the people on his team had signaled him to go over on stage to which he nodded, looked at you one last time, gave you a peck on the lips and ran off.Â
From backstage, you watched him perform all night, dancing and mouthing the lyrics to every song. You had always been his number one cheerleader. As the show neared its end, the band suddenly went quiet. Michael looked over at them and gave a small signal. The musicians exchanged hesitant glances before nodding. The heaviness in your chest started to grow as the anxiety vibrated through your mind and into your body. Then the first tunes to the song started, and you knew damn well that intro. Your fingers curled into your palms until crescent-shaped marks formed against your skin. Dirty Diana.Â
You closed your eyes trying to take deep breaths in as the song proceeded, you felt the need to calm yourself down and keep everything at bay. There was no need to show her your emotions despite the fact that she wasnât there with you, you didnât want her to get the satisfaction of her getting a rise out of you. You opened up your eyes and looked at Michael as he sang, so into the lyrics not even looking back at you as he usually would, you swallowed the lump that started to form on your throat. In that moment you saw it, Michael looked at her. He didnât move his eyes from her. For Diana, of course she looked at him, with those eyes.Â
You couldnât keep on watching it felt like your personal living hell, so you just left. As you made your way out of backstage slowly, you found Bill. The only thing he could do was give you an apologetic look and offer you a ride home as he knew Michael would stay and talk with Diana.Â
As you sat in the car, you rested your forehead against the cold window, watching the streetlights blur together as the city passed by. You couldn't stop thinking about every little moment you had shared with Michael. But more than that, your mind kept drifting back to every interaction between him and Diana, from the very first day you met her.Â
You remembered it vividly, that night was the very first night you had gone to club 54 with Michael, of course at the time you were still friends. You remembered the bright lights and the music, the people dancing on the dance floor to the beat of some song, but what marked the night was her, Diana. Her sultry voice when talking to Michael and the dismissive tone she had when Michael introduced you to her as his friend. âDiana, I want you to meet my friend, she is one of the greatest musicians in her genre, she is also one of the best songwriters in Spanish and English." You extended your hand for her to shake and for her only to look at it. âNice meeting you. Oh so you're a singer too? How cute.â She said with a sly smile as walked over to Michael. She leaned in and told him something that had made him blush and giggle. The moment Diana backed up she winked at him and left, you couldnât help but swallow the thick lump that formed on your throat as you watched her leave.Â
As you pulled the keys to open up your apartmentâs door, it felt like your mind was on auto-pilot, omitting the little details of the night so that it could only survive a bit longer without it crumbling all into tiny pieces. You opened up the door slowly, stepped inside and closed the door behind you. The distant rumble of Bill's car slowly faded away as he drove back toward the stadium, back to where your Michael was, well⌠was he ever really yours? You slipped off your shoes and left them by the door, not bothering to turn on any lights. Piece by piece, you could feel yourself coming undone as you made your way through the apartment, until your feet carried you into the bathroom. Your hands immediately went to your face as you dragged them across it, finally looking in the mirror.Â
The woman staring back at you from the mirror looked exhausted. Her eyes were red, her makeup slightly smudged, and for a brief second all you could think about was the way Michael had looked at Diana. You didnât even try to hold everything as tears fell down your cheeks, every piece of decorum and self-control you had chipped away slowly throughout the night as you watched every little interaction and every look unfold. Your knees gave out beneath you. You slowly slid down the bathroom wall until you were sitting on the cold tiles, hugging your knees against your chest as sob after sob shook your body. The silence of the apartment only made it worse, and the mirror across from you reflected every crack you had tried so hard to hide.
The final notes of the last song rang throughout the stadium as Michael smiled brightly at his fans, âthank you all!â He said as he ran backstage to get back to you and have a little rest before leaving. But before he could his team had immediately surrounded him."Amazing show, Michael."Â Â
"You were incredible tonight." He smiled politely, thanking everyone as they spoke over one another.Â
"Mike." The moment he heard Dianaâs voice he turned around and saw Diana standing there looking at him with a smile on her face. "Couldn't believe my eyes seeing you out there.â She said as she started to approach him slowly making the distance between them even smaller. âI almost didn't recognize that shy little boy I used to know. Michael laughed softly, shaking his head. "I'm not that kid anymore."
âNah you are not, you grown.â In that moment the sound faded softly as they started to talk, the thought of finding you had gone to the back of Michaelâs head.Â
For a moment he stopped. Then, almost instinctively, Michael looked toward the place where you had been standing. His smile faded, he looked again. You weren't there. He excused himself away from Diana leaving her a bit dumbfounded by the sudden change of heart. Michaelâs eyes kept scanning the room looking for you. "Have you seen Y/N?" A few people shook their heads as they looked at him. So he started walking faster and kept on asking.Â
"Has anyone seen my girlfriend?" Still nothing, as if you had disappeared from the face of the earth, nowhere to be found. The uneasy feeling that had started to grow in his chest quickly turned into panic as he couldnât find you, and in that moment he found Bill, near to one of the exits. "Bill, where is she?" Bill looked at him for a second before letting out a quiet sigh as he shook his head softly at Michael. âShe went home, Joker." Michael looked at him confused at first, wide eyes and then the frown took over his face. âWhat do you mean?â He said in a stern voice trying to keep his cool which was proving to be more than difficult at the time. Bill only looked at Michael, disappointment could be read in his eyes as he looked directly into Michaelâs. âShe watched the whole thing.â In that very second Michaelâs expression faltered. âThe song... the way you looked at Diana... â Michaelâs stomach dropped. "No... Bill, it wasn't like that."Â
"Maybe not," Bill answered. "But that's not what she saw." Realisation hit Michael hard in the face, because if he looked at it from your perspective it felt as if he was⌠he didnât even want to think about it as every little interaction replayed in his mind. He realized what an idiot he was, he was so stuck on wanting to impress Diana and prove himself that he completely forgot about you and how you couldâve viewed the whole thing. "Oh God..." Michael placed his hand against his forehead and dragged it down his face. "Bill, I need you to take me to her.â Bill nodded.
The car ride was quiet to Michaelâs dismay as he watched the window of the car, hand over his mouth, knee bouncing in anticipation. Michaleâs thoughts were taking over him that he didnât even notice the fact when they had already arrived until Bill signaled him. He had opened the door and sprinted towards your apartment. He knocked once. Then twice. "Sweetheart?â Nothing, no answer. "Please..." Silence, nada. "I know you're in there." The apartment stayed quiet, Michael rested his forehead against the door. "Please don't do this... please talk to me." You had collected yourself some time ago and made yourself a cup of tea, hoping you could at least get a little sleep that night. âI know you are in there, and if it takes me all night to see you Iâll wait out here for you. All day. All night. Hell, Iâll stay here for a week if it means that i get to talk to you, please let me fix thisâŚâÂ
Michael had spent the rest of the night sitting in the cold tiles of the floor with his back against your door, hands in his face, trying to hide the puffiness that had taken over his eyes from crying. If you werenât gonna open the door he would wait for you all night, all day, hell even all week, so that he could talk to you and see you again. He couldnât lose you, specially because he did the stupidest thing ever knowing how you felt about Diana. He only wanted to prove he wasnât the kid that Diana once knew.Â
The moment you opened the door Michael fell with his back to the floor, he was looking directly at you. âWe need to talk. There is breakfast for you inside if you want it.â The moment Michael heard your voice, he smiled softly and the fact that you offered him breakfast despite everything left a tiny little hope on him. âThis does not mean we are on good terms⌠yet.â Michael smiled in relief as he stood up and closed the door behind him as he followed you into the kitchen. He was ready to beg and more for you, because he couldnât lose you. You were his muse, his safe place, the person he wanted to come home to after every show. And standing outside your apartment door, Michael realized that none of the applause from thousands of people could ever make up for losing you. He would fix everything. It was a promise.
