Shamelessly using the same sketch four times, but it feels good to just be rough and open with things. The shape of this creature was originally something for the Tenebra Versa part of the headworld, but it actually fit pretty well into the SohaereĂ n stuff. Not refined and thought-out at all yet, but itâs a nice silhouette to do something with. :)

Had a very calm Saturday and lots of time to play around with the âcurve creatureâ from yesterday. Now it looks like a halfway believable creature, and while it doesnât feel entirely âSoharicâ yet, I like the design.
The extendable neck is no actual neck, but rather a repurpose of its first pair of limbs. You can see the thin arm bones in the âneckâ of the second image. The skull and brain remain in the upper thorax and only the eyestalk moves with the extension of the false neck.
On the third image, I tested a common Soharic color pattern on the creature, and it also suits it well :)
Was sorting through older sketchbooks and came across this first page from one of 2018â˛s books. I didnât remember drawing this and had a good chuckle :D Man, thatâs the only thing I miss about pre-covid times - all the sketching on the commuter trains.
Iâm currently pulling old(er) images from sketchbooks and folders, give them some rough base color and arrange them on pages to get more feel of whatâs actually already there, what works and what doesnât. As soon as an idea comes around, no matter how generic or mundane, I give it a sketch with no artistic requirements. And every time my brain tries to hold back, saying ânaaah, this is stupid/boring/has been done a million timesâ, I ignore it and go on. Itâs insanely liberating, although I still chase THE IDEA - but itâs going to come around sooner or later. Gotta have some more fun on the way.

Still pretty slow on the drawing side of (worldbuilding) things, I donât know if itâs the weather, the need for vacation, me growing older or everything at once. Nonetheless, hereâs something I made in May :)
Itâs a first series of ideas and sketches for a semi-aquatic predator which developed from corioalars. As soon as the sea recedes and reveals the tidal flats, they come down from the hills and hunt smaller creatures feeding on sea snails, lugworms and other marine life. They are also able to chase fish in shallow water, using their wing-fins for additional propulsion.
I really like the overall design, but the legs donât work for that environment. Gotta update them at some point in the future :)
At the moment, I really enjoy being super rough and raw, not caring about a beautiful image, just bashing things together and see if they work. This is one of those raw bashes on which I tested several ideas of the last days and weeks. The hard worldbuilding and the visuals start to come together, slowly, and if I look at this image full-screen, I begin to feel something :)
Again nothing beautiful tonight, itâs one of those wandering-mind-sketches after a week which was too high in entropy and doesnât need to repeat itself. Itâs basically the same image from yesterdayâs train ride again, only with a little more bending towards the strider anatomy - oh well x) It do be like that sometimes.
