Combine the deliciousness of a soft pretzel with the classic flavors of pizza in this unique and tasty Pretzel Crust Pizza. The pretzel crust adds a delightful twist to your favorite pizza toppings.
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups warm water. 1 packet active dry yeast. 1 teaspoon sugar. 4 cups all-purpose flour. 2 teaspoons salt. 2/3 cup baking soda. 1 egg yolk. 2 tablespoons water. 1/4 cup coarse sea salt. 1 1/2 cups pizza sauce. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese. Toppings of your choice e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers.
Instructions: In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. In a separate bowl, mix all-purpose flour and salt. Combine the yeast mixture with the flour mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Preheat your oven to 475F 245C. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Divide the dough into portions and roll each portion into a thin rope. Form the ropes into pretzel shapes. Whisk together egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of water. Brush the pretzels with this mixture and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove the pretzels from the oven and let them cool slightly. Lower the oven temperature to 425F 220C. Spread pizza sauce on the pretzel crusts, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce. Add your choice of pizza toppings. Bake the pizzas for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown. Slice and enjoy!
