HEY PET OWNERS
Does your pet need to wear the cone of shame for whatever reason? Boy do I have a great alternative for you!
Motherfucking. Soft. Collars.
They’re basically like plush pillows instead of a hard plastic cone, they’re way lighter than they look, and let me tell you, these things are the shit.
One of my cats has flea allergy and the stuff we were using just was not working, so she had scratched the back of her neck bloody and had these really bad scabs. Even when we got rid of the flea issue, she was still scratching there and tearing the scabs open because they itched.
Out of desperation I searched through amazon to find something that would keep her from clawing her neck and I found these beautiful bastards.
Not only are they adorable but cats tolerate them really well. There’s a short adjustment period where they might have trouble jumping up and down from things but they get over that pretty quick. I have a loft bed with a cat tree for the cats to get up there, and within a few days Sif was climbing it like usual with the daisy on her head and then end up using it like a pillow.
I would suggest maybe putting it on them and them putting them in a cat carrier that’s confined enough they’ll have a hard time getting it off, let them get used to it in there for a few hours, then let them out and see how they do. Sif slipped out of hers a couple times but it didn’t seem to be a purposeful thing.
The yellow daisy did wonders for her not scratching her neck, but she could still lick her butt area if she tried hard enough and she was fine eating, drinking, and using the litter box with it. We recently adopted another cat and had him neutered so we got a slightly larger flower for him so he couldn’t lick that area and he took to it just as well.
He also taught me a trick for putting it on a cat! Put the cat inside a pet carrier. Open the door just a bit and put the collar in front of it, refusing to let the cat out until it pushes its head through the hole of the collar. Viola, it’s on.
Due to this little fella being in quarantine away from the other cats in my mom’s room and her recovering from having her gallbladder removed (shit timing all around) he’s unfortunately been confined to the pet carrier and let out for play times, food, and potty breaks. Since he’s distracted during those times, I take the flower off, and before I put him back in the carrier I stick him in the litter box to do his business, he does, and since it’s covered I just stick the collar in front of the door and he’s perfectly fine shoving his face through the flower and trotting out of the box. Even our vet loved it when we took him in for his followup appointment.
I mean come on, does this look like an unhappy cat?
They have them for dogs, too, and I even saw something similar for birds. Seriously, if your pet needs a cone, do yourself a favor and get some of these. They have some really cute ones and they’re pretty inexpensive on amazon.
