THE FIRSTS WITH MARCUS

The first kiss happens on your first date.

You’ve both been two pining idiots for quite a long time, now, never telling the other how you really feel.

But after working a long nightshift and deciding to refuel yourselves at a 24-hour dive at 3 in the morning, you simultaneously spilled your feelings to each other over a shared stack of blueberry pancakes.

So, on your first “official” date, Marcus took even better care of you than before, bringing you somewhere nice for dinner followed by a walk in the local park, staying hand-in-hand and never wanting to have to let go.

When he takes you home, he walks to your door and seems to linger as he says goodbye. He tells you how beautiful you look tonight and always and brings a delicate hand to your cheek and you can see the shared longing in his dark eyes.

And when he first leans in, it’s so soft and trying, and he barely places his lips upon yours before breaking away to search your gaze and make sure that it’s okay.

So you become the one to jump back in, letting yourself melt against him until you’re sure he can feel your heart thumping hard in your chest.

You’ve never experienced a feeling like that before. It feels like the evening sky on the Fourth of July inside your entire body.

The first confession happens on the job, a few months into your relationship with Marcus. You’re operating a sting together that goes very wrong—ending up with a bullet that barely whizzes past your nose and makes you fall backwards in Marcus’ awaiting arms. He doesn’t even bother pursuing the perpetrator—who, thankfully, is being chased by one of your other team members—as he looks over you in a panic.

“Are you okay? It didn’t get you, right?”

You nod, still shaky with adrenaline. Marcus sighs in relief, and you try to lighten the mood while also wanting to get what’s been on your chest for so long off and in the air—in the event that you don’t make it the next time. “You know I couldn’t have died yet,” you joke, making Marcus chuckle a bit. You make your expression more serious as you bring a hand to his cheek. “Not without telling you I love you.”

Marcus is shocked beyond words at first, but slowly smiles as he finds some. “And I wouldn’t have been able to let you until I told you that I love you, too.”

And with a quickly shared kiss, that was that, the both of you using those words honestly and frequently after jogging after the perpetrator once again.

Your first time with Marcus isn’t too long after this moment. There’s just been a tension rising between the two of you for quite some time, now, ever since you decided to finally move in together.

When a kiss gets more heated and isn’t in a rush to be stopped by either one of you, Marcus forces himself to pause because he refuses to go further if you’re not ready.

But you are. And still, he’s as soft as ever. Constant communication, never letting you leave his touch, kisses light as air anywhere and everywhere. It’s as gentle as his nature is, and you can’t say you’re surprised by that.
