Land is on a slant, so is house, but people and horses are properly vertical, as the photographer must have intended. Two kinds of 'Nebraska Bricks': 1. Made of sod. This kind of house was called a 'Soddy.' In the early, treeless days of Nebraska, settlers cut blocks of thick prairie-grass-root-bound soil to use as "sod bricks" for building walls. 2. Made of composite rock-like material. Another kind of old 'Nebraska brick' was Chimney Rock, composed of Brule Clay, volcanic ash, & sandstone, & was famously misidentified as solid rock by early settlers.
