The Best SodaStream Flavors Reviewed
While some users of the SodaStream home carbonators are content to whip up their own drink flavors, others would rather use premixed syrups for convenience. SodaStream makes several such flavor syrups, which can be added to carbonated water for quick sodas.
The concentrated nature of these syrups means that you can get a surprising number of drinks out of a small bottle of syrup (assuming you use the recommended amount of flavoring per liter of water, that is). For example, a 500ml bottle of soda mix will typically get you around 33 cans’ worth of flavored soda. That’s 12 liters, which means that even with the cost of a flavor mix bottle factored in, making your own soda at home remains fairly low-cost—all while giving you (in most cases) fewer calories and less sugar or aspartame.
There are caveats to that, of course. Most of the diet and sugar-free flavors use Splenda, so you won’t enjoy them if you’re not a fan of that sweetener. Not all of them are naturally flavored; that’s another consideration if you’d prefer to avoid the artificially flavored drinks.
The best SodaStream flavors are all fruit-based and make for great alternatives to store-bought soda. Below we take a look at a few of them to see their good and bad points. Remember this, though: tastes—perhaps for food and drink more than anything else—always vary. So, what we say here might not be what you end up saying when you try the drinks yourself. Still, our findings were the ones we found commonly held in our group during taste testing, so they’re not just the reviews of one person.
The Ocean Spray flavor from SodaStream is an alternative for people who want to enjoy the Ocean Spray Cranberry Raspberry drink at their convenience without worrying about having to stock it at home or making a beeline to the store every time they want to lift their spirits It combines a tangy and sweet taste to add some fizzle to your beverages and cocktails for an interesting and appealingly colored mix. Like most of the other flavors, it can be purchased in 500ml syrup bottles that make around 12L of cranberry raspberry soda.
Pros:
One of the flavors widely acknowledged to taste closest to the original flavor profile
Does not leave a Splenda aftertaste
Concentrated and is effective at 50-75% of the recommended serving
Cons:
Some may find the raspberry flavor ‘lighter’ than expected
May cause the drink to run flat at times
Most people who have tried this flavor have been hooked to it and you very likely will as well, especially if you happen to like your drinks a bit on the tart side. This is because of the more prominent cranberry taste in this flavor.
