Today's sermon comes from #Baltimore's Rodney Foxworth and East Palo Alto's Stephen DeBerry. Stephen wonders why most capital continues to miss the opportunities to invest in people who come from the wrong side of the tracks. Started out with $7m in venture capital, grown to a billion dollar portfolio using an "#eastside" strategy. The time for #black rage around #philanthropy has always been now, Rodney adds. The folks living problems everyone wants to solve still don't get invited to the table often enough, early enough, with enough respect. Think about the unconscious biases we all hold. Think about the vastness of the human experience each of us lacks. Think about investing and stewarding and managing and deploying huge amounts of capital using such a tiny slice of the information that exists about the human experience. #Diversity matters. #Racematters. #Gender matters. #SOCAP16 (at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture)
