CONTRACT DATES: July and August
COMPENSATION: $2000 honorarium
The Everyone Rides Initiative (ERI) is working to make Hamilton Bike Share (HBS) more equitable by removing the barriers that prevent people from accessing our services.
Everyone Rides Initiative Goals:
Adding more bikes and bike hubs into the East end of our service area.
Offering more membership subsidization to individuals and organizations in financial need.
Continue to offer opportunities for education: Bike Share Basics, Learn how to Ride.
Continue to offer opportunities for education: Bike Share Basics, Learn how to Ride.
Our community outreach is expanding by developing our Group Ride program and community mural projects.
Job Description
Hamilton Bike Share is currently looking for a candidate to assist in the development of a project within the ERI
Group Rides and community outreach initiative that will focus on delivering a First Nations histories bike tour of Hamilton. We are developing this project as a way to encourage people to ride their bikes, explore local communities, and build connections with fellow cyclists.
The First Nations Group Ride will be open to all, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, and will provide everyone an opportunity to learn about significant stories and landmarks in Hamilton from a First Nations perspective. Hamilton Bike Share and the Everyone Rides Initiative will be providing access to SoBi bikes in order for all, bike share members and non-bike-share members, to participate in these guided rides.
The First Nations Ride Guide is responsible for researching, developing, and facilitating a series of four different group bike ride tours through July and August 2017 that highlight Indigenous histories, landmarks and stories in Hamilton.
Requirements
-Understanding and knowledge of First Nations histories in the Hamilton area
-Have strong ties to the Indigenous community in the Hamilton area
-Friendly and professional community outreach skills
-Works effectively with a team and independently
-Willing to ride SoBi bikes and advocate for cycling
-Culturally competent and supportive of anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices
Duties
Research
-Conduct and synthesize research to develop a First Nations Group Ride series over the summer
-Determine relevant locations, stories and bike routes
-Collaborate with the team in the creation of an educational program
-Collaborate with the team on program title
-Curate locations and stories
Outreach
-Capacity to develop a project through community connections
-Encourage Hamilton organizations to participate and promote the rides
-Ensure that the programming is in line with community expectations
-Work with the team to promote the tour and encourage people to ride along
Tour/Ride
-Organize and plan all group ride destinations, durations, stops and stories
-Facilitate/animate the 4 tours as the primary guide (tours each being a minimum of 1 hour)
-Ability to share significance of each location
-Can communicate storytelling effectively
-Can demonstrate leadership
