       “I need to talk to you about something important. Both of you.” 

       That’s how he’d phrased it when he called; a vast understatement, really. This conversation, as far a Kiku is concerned, is more than important, it’s absolutely crucial. What does anything else matter in his attempt to redeem himself of past sins, if he can’t face his past in the only way that means something? 

       That’s the thought he holds in his mind when he shows up at Lin’s residence. It’s been a while since he last visited the island, for good reason; he hasn’t felt welcome, and these days, he cares about that. Keeping his distance seemed the only respectful thing he could do until he was ready to face the consequences of his actions. Even now, as he stands in front of the door, that’s something he dreads. But it’s time, and Kiku has made peace with the fact that whatever happens after he has said what he needs to will be out of his hands. If they send him back home with harsh words, he’ll understand, but... They seem tired of this, too. If they forgive him, it’ll be more than he’s earned. Hopefully, this might at least start him down the path of reconcilliation. 

If there was one thing, intensely, that he hated it would be meeting with the Governor. All that political crap bored the hell out of him. Maybe that’s why Kit has wandered his way to the nearest place with people. Street performers weren’t uncommon. They were all over the place like rabbits. But he enjoyed them, finding them novelties in his larger cities.

Maybe that’s why he managed to smooth talk a table from one of them. At the moment he’s doing card tricks, easily manipulating the deck of black playing cards that he always carried around with himself, humming along with the music another street performer was playing. A sleight of hand and the Ace card vanishes from his fingers, a grin painting his lips at the delight this earns from those watching.

“Fucking bastard, bloody—bloody twat, can’t even get a fucking meeting done properly without—” His complaints grumbled down into incoherent cursing as another wave of shivers racked his already-trembling frame.

Another burst of cold air and snow slapped his face; splaying his hair into a greater mess than it usually was. He wrapped his peacoat tighter around himself and buried his chin further into his knitted scarf. 

Russia had insisted that a taxi was on its way to pick them up and take them to the conference building on the other side of Moscow. Only a bit late, he said! The both of them had been waiting for over a half-hour in the middle of a bloody blizzard, it felt like. It was absolutely dreadful.

“oh please let me do your hair?” eser’s eyes are bright and her smile is wide and childish. sometimes it was easy to forget she was little more than a child to most.
