That advice is for people who do numbers on tiktok because they have comp titles and trope graphs and can summarize their stories with nice little taglines packed with buzzwords.

This is not a hit against those, mind. It is more a hit against my own ability to do those things.

But it does seem it would be easier to do that if I wrote anything the average person would enjoy.

Instead I write fucked up fiction about fucked up creatures and I adore everyone who finds entertainment or catharsis in those words.

It does mean I need to keep expectations low and it does make it extra awkward when a well-meaning friend or family member acts like I'm a big deal because I published something.

Is it awesome to have books out there with my name on them? Yes. Especially this one. Little me what dreamed of being an author is leaping and wriggling she's so happy.

Adult me, who has bills and can't get-let alone keep-a job but also can't get disability because her husband makes just the right amount to exclude her from it, but not enough to cover all of our bills, is absolutely miserable.

So, you know, mixed feelings.

Not sure how to help the second point really. The idea of marketing with videos, even the pngtuber style thing, feels like so much extra work that isn't writing related and won't actually prepare any potential readers for the words. But I'll still try it. See how it goes. If it doesn't detract too much from actually writing and the myriad other things I'm supposed to be doing every day.

So, uh, I might have made another OC Link. And have a story in mind for him. But it's when his story takes place that is kind of throwing me off.

He's a Calamity Timeline boy, and he never actually fights Ganon/Demise/demon king/anything like that. He really isn't viewed as a big Hero of Hyrule throughout history, but he was pivotal in helping Princess Zelda stop a dark ritual from happening and starting to incorporate the barbarian lands into Hyrule Kingdom.

This Link lives in Faron, a land that's wild territory outside of Hyrule's border, where multiple different tribes of people live. He doesn't speak, though his wife Nina is trying to get him to (he used to speak as a child, but when his tribe was butchered by the one that adopted him due to a resources dispute, he never made a peep again). He loves crafting new weapons and tools, as well as exploring the old ruins around the woods (and showing Nina).

Meanwhile, Princess Zelda is the second born in the royal family, and she's trying to make sure her brother, who is acting king at the moment after their mother's death since Zelda isn't of age yet, gets married and has a daughter so she doesn't have to take the throne. Zelda is also trying to investigate the source of increased monster attacks, and help her brother find a new source of energy after Hyrule banned mining for Zonaite due to causing instability in the Depths.

When Zelda hears that there might be answers to most of her dilemmas in the barbaric territories outside of Hyrule, she travels there. She's attacked by one of the tribes, and Link rescues her. It would be a relief for her, honestly, if Link was wearing some actual clothes and didn't just motion and refuse to speak like great Hylia this place IS barbaric--

Anyway, Link and his friends end up trying to help keep Zelda 1, alive amidst a massive ceremonial time where half the tribes do attempt to kidnap or kill people for sacrifices and 2, assist her in finding the source of the monsters since Link's tribe in particular is heavily influenced by monster hunting.

(this story takes place when Sheikah technology is hitting its peak, so it's got some fun things like radios and master cycles and Zelda messes with her slate all the time and loves selfies and might be vlogging her entire journey so she can show her friends when she gets back)

Yes, I am aware that there is a Dooki art where it says "possibly dating?😳" for Selever and Julius. But for now, I will consider them as "frienemies" because that is how their relationship was described in another Dooki art. I hope you understand...
