"I know you think that, but I’m going to anyway because... because that’s what friends do. They care.” Her answer was murmured quietly, her tone resolute despite its softened tones. While most of Class 1A might be unaware of the turmoil that turbocharged Iida’s need to be helpful, to lead the way in regards to academics and the like, Ochako knew the weight of the self-imposed responsibility he carried all too well. After all, she was carrying the same burden upon her own petite shoulders and, while the shape of it might’ve been different?
There was no denying the similarity in tonnage, proverbially speaking.
As he lied about how he was going to be okay--another familiar refrain to the tune that underscored their lives--something within her heart resonated, hardening into the sort of resolve that had nearly pulled off the upset of the school festival. Small though her stature might’ve been, there was no denying her fierceness and, as her hand slid down to cup tear-streaked cheek, one truth made itself evident in her tone.
“I care, Iida-kun.” No matter what it took, she’d make that lie into the truth. “So don’t ever think you have to put on a brave front for me, okay?”
