winter reads - december 2025 to february 2026
I’m not a fan of winter. I hate the cold and the darkness and I’ve been anxious for spring since late November. So this year I decided to embrace the season and focus on reading (or re-reading) books on my TBR with a winter setting. And coincidentally, the rereads fit perfectly with the January Re-readathon by @logarithmicpanda!
The books above:
Snowblooded by Emma Sterner-Radley
The Wood At Midwinter by Susanna Clarke ❄️
The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea ❄️
North is the Night by Emily Rath
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett (reread)
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (reread)
Additionally, as a library ebook:
Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk ❄️
❄️ = finished already
bonus: look at the gorgeous sprayed edges on North is the Night!
Okay, so I know marketing is not for tumblr and I agree with that. But I have to at least mention that my Swedish 18th century fantasy adventure with secret societies, assassins, mysteries, duels, queer love, mlm and wlw solidarity, ace rep, and masquerades is now up for reviewing AND for pre-orders!
Reviewers can find it on Netgalley (not US, I’m sorry to say!)
Those who want pre-orders can buy the book in their usual bookshops! (If it’s not in your region yet, please be patient!)
Back of book summary:
Princess Bride meets Six of Crows meets Gideon the Ninth
Valour and Petrichor are esteemed members of the Order of Axsten, an assassin’s guild tasked with keeping order in the rough city of Vinterstock. Plucked from the streets as children and raised to compete for their guild’s approval, Valour uses her brawn to survive, while Petrichor strives to be a gentleman assassin. When they’re given their biggest job yet—to kill Brandquist, the mysterious leader of the city's illegal magic trade—it’s a recipe for disaster. If they can quell their rivalry long enough, the reward will be enough to settle their debts with the Order and start new lives.
If this job wasn’t dangerous enough, Valour is saddled with protecting the aristocrat, Ingrid Rytterdahl. Valour finds her dangerously attractive, but Petrichor can’t wait to be rid of them both. He begrudgingly accepts Ingrid’s knowledge and connections as they navigate the city’s criminal underbelly in pursuit of Brandquist.
As secrets bubble to the surface, the duo must outwit the thugs on their tail, keep Ingrid alive, and—hardest of all—work together without murdering each other.
Btw, if you listen to your books, you can now join this 18th century fantasy adventure with queer assassins bantering, soul-searching, and finding lovers while hunting an underground crime lord in a Swedish city. It can be pre-ordered on Audible and iBooks (sadly not in all regions.)
So I promised you the other piece of art from the brilliant Ewa Zajdel ( https://araneapeixes.tumblr.com/) and here it is! Feast your eyes on this sweet, frank, chaotic butch: Valour. She’s got a heart of gold but it’s been beaten up far too much. Maybe there’s a certain woman who can help her mend it?
Oh and why not check out Snowblooded in your fave bookshop here?

Aaaaaaaah! I have wanted a drink for one of my books from the first time I saw the Bar Cart Bookshelf YouTube channel! And now any Snowblooded readers can mix themselves up an “Order of Axsten”! (I love that it’s a mocktail since my wife doesn’t drink and so our household are big fans of mocktails.) Go check out the full recipe and the video here: https://youtu.be/eHtJlxbOnGk?si=e_O50lRxw7wfUyDC
Put it in when I saw your post. Hope that helps
Thank you SO MUCH! That’s amazing!
