A Fort with a view. . Fort Barrington was (re)built in 1779 and served as a military signal outpost for the island of Antigua. At the time the British were enforcing the ‘Navigation Acts 1651 - 1849’ prohibiting trade with the empires of Netherlands, Spain and France as well as imposing duties on other colonies’ exports. Economic historians found the sugar duties for goods bound to America although small, disproportionately affected the politically active merchants there and this contributed to the start of the American Revolution. #informativeinstagrams #fort #barrington #deep #bay #beach #antigua #there #is #a #great #snorkelable #shipwreck #just #out #of #shot #freetrade #vs #mercantilism (at Deep Bay (vik i Antigua och Barbuda))
