🐕 Hiking in the rain 😎⛈️
We just got Mandana’s preliminary report back from her bacterial culture and she has an Enterococcus Faecalis infection. I’m guessing she got it from the Sniffspot pond which would make sense (and is what I was suggesting to the vet the whole time) because she started showing a lot of symptoms after her last swim. I’m usually pretty good about not taking her swimming after it’s been raining bc of bacteria runoff but Hubbins has taken over her swim sessions for me and he’s not as experienced with making those calls.
She also has an E. coli skin infection and we are still waiting for fungal results which will come later. I suspect the other infections are probably opportunistic after she was already sick and since they are antibiotic resistant she might have picked them up from our many vet visits lately. I’ve been taking her in for things that now appear related to this E Faecalis infection. Ear inflection-like symptoms, UTI-like symptoms, swelling, diarrhea, fatigue, lack of appetite, feeling warm to the touch and of course the raging skin infection around her butt. None of them have been severe enough to be worrisome on their own and few actually tested positive at her vet appointments but all of them together had me pushing for more tests and treatment. I’m glad we didn’t wait and hopefully this new antibiotic (Baytril/Enrofloxacin) will have her feeling better in no time.
