A Quick Guide on How to Use Snapchat’s New Features

Snapchat revamped its whole interface with a massive new update.  Well, many are heartbroken after the update removed the ‘Best Friend’ feature. However, there is much more to it than that. Snapchat has added a new ‘Discover’ tool which seems like the beginning of a whole new chapter in the way we consume content online.

"Snaptags" show evolution of Snapchat

When Sony was hacked not too long ago, it was leaked that social media giant Snapchat bought out a start-up company, called Scan.me, that specialized in QR codes. The acquisition was a mystery up until the recent unveiling of "Snaptags." This new feature lets users add one another by scanning a unique code with their Snapchat camera, addressing the issue of finding friends on the app. 

This is a great example of a company listening to its customers (or users in this case). Snapchat took feedback from people who found a problem, and then they took steps to solve it. Users made it clear that it was too inconvenient to find and add other people in the app. Now, assuming the feature works as anticipated, it will improve their service and reputation.

The article also mentions that the strategic move will make Snapchat feel more like a mature social media platform. With more people and companies to easily follow, there will be more content to interact with.

Taking a page out of Tesco's book, Glamour created what might be one of the first "shoot-to-shop" OOH executions in the US. Glamour approached some of their longest standing beauty product advertising  partners and encouraged them to take part in an execution that allows passers-by to literally take a picture to purchase their products. Brands ranging from C.O. Bigelow to Clearasil participated in the innovative execution that leveraged SnapTags from SpyderLink.

Glamour's shoppable wall lets consumers scan 2-D barcodes with an app on their phone to buy real products for home delivery.  The wall is stocked with items from Unilever , Limited Brands ' C.O. Bigelow, Johnson & Johnson , John Frieda, Elizabeth Arden, Clearasil and Versace. Glamour is again using SnapTags from SpyderLynk as its 2-D barcode provider. The magazine used Facebook-enabled SnapTags in its September issue and SnapTags set up for e-commerce in its March issue.
