She stared at her future Grunkle.
He had always been a stinky and dirty old man to her, but this...
His hair was so greasy and nappy that she wouldn't have been surprised if it crawled off of his head. His face shined in the way only those who rarely, if ever, washed their faces. His clothes were far more worn than anything that she'd seen him dressed in with patches in his pants and jacket and the knees of his jeans almost thin enough to see through.
And he was living in his car.
Her Grunkle Stan never let his car get too dirty, always taking time to clean it between trips to town. She remembered twice that he'd cleaned his car to the point it was spotless inside.
Through all of these observations, despite her energetic smile and boisterous dialogue, she could only think one thing.
He lied.
Sail Away With Me
Summary: In this dimension, Stanford tries to sail away with Stanley.
This fic is inspired by and based on this comic. Thank you @daidz-art for making this beautiful comic! (Cross-posted on AO3)
It was supposed to be fine. Everything was supposed to work out.
But it didnât.
West Cost Tech had rejected him.
If it had been because his project truly wasnât up to snuff, he would have been fine with that. He would have been able to move on.
But his twin did this.
Delayed Healing
A Rockabye Au Ficlet
âYou resented me⌠didnât you?â Sherman asks as he stands in front of Stanâs grave- right next to their fatherâs and motherâs. He doesnât brother to turn around to look at his only living brother. âYou blamed me for his death didnât you?â
Stanford scoffs and puts an arm over the younger manâs shoulders. âWhat makes you say that?â
âYou have to⌠he was your twin and he died saving me.â
âI tell you this over and over. I donât hate you and I donât blame you. Stan was the type of guy who wouldâve put his life on the line for you no matter what⌠itâs not your fault. Those bastards⌠it was their fault.â
Sherman looks over at Stanford and notices how old heâs gotten. Would Stan have looked like this had he lived to be this old? Would his hair be darker or lighter? Would he even still have all of his hair? Would he have let himself go? How would he have changed?
Those thoughts are one of the reasons he hesitates to see Stanford. It hurt to see him sometimes. Stanford ended up having to fill Stanâs roll. Sherman can remember the first night that the nightmares hit that their mom wasnât there to comfort him for.
Ford had been deep in grief himself- how his grades stayed up still was beyond his comprehension- but he came into Shermieâs room and hugged him. Shermie sobbed his apologies and Ford hadnât bothered to speak- better to let the boy get it all out. Shermie fell asleep like that.
Another time Shermie had let the grief consume him and he ended up nearly doing something drastic. Ford had yelled at him and restrained him and broke down into tears himself. âStan wouldnâtâve wanted this.â That broke Shermie in ways he wouldnât be able to describe even decades later.
Stanford Pines was- perhaps- the only reason Sherman was as old and as stable was he is now. He was Shermanâs second father. And a young Sherman was determined not to lose this one like the first and the one heâd never got the chance to meet.
Sherman sighs as he rubs his shoulder as it begins to ache. âI know.â
Stanford notices the action. âAre you alright? Do you need a pain pack?â
âNo, Iâm fine.â
Stanford gives him a disbelieving look and then adjusts the collar to look at the burn mark on his shoulder.
A burn gotten from fighting a demon for Stanfordâs very life. Sherman looks over his shoulder and sees guilt swimming in Stanfordâs eyes.
âThat wasnât your faultâŚâ
âBut it was,â Ford says as he lets go, seeing itâs not festering with infection. âOh but it wasâŚâ
âAre you two gonna be there all day?â
The two look up at Mabel as she stands near the entrance of the graveyard.
âWeâll be right there, sweetie!â Stanford calls with a soft smile.
Sherman readjusts his clothes and walks towards his granddaughter. âComing over for dinner?â
âDepends on whoâs cooking.â
Shermie gives his older brother a look.
Stanford chuckles and throws his arm over his younger brotherâs shoulders.. âOf course I am. Letâs go.â
The two walk away from the grave with smiles on their faces as they go back to the world of the living.
Funeral
A Rockabye Au Ficlet
It wasnât a big funeral. Just one or two people outside the family attending Stanâs funeral. It was short and sweet- just the way Stan wouldâve wanted it (he was never one for beating around the bush and preferred to get straight to the point).
Shermie felt numb the entire time. None of this felt real. Stan was too... lively to die. He was supposed to live to a stubbornly old age like their grandmother.
Shermie jolts when he feels an arm go over his shoulder and looks up at Ford. His gaze quickly lowers and he gulps thickly. It hurt looking at Ford. Not just because he looks just like Stan, but because he lost a brother too- his twin. That meant something. Something more than a mere brother.
And Shermie caused that.
As the casket is lowered he gulps thickly and trembles. Stop joking around... get up... pop out and scare us...
Stan never pops out with a broad grin on his face or laugh at them for falling for it. He never flinches from being hit by their mother or get punched by Shermie until relief washes over the boy and he apologizes. He never hugs Shermie and apologize.
None of that happens. He lays there silent as the grave inside the casket and gets buried six feet under.
âCâmon, letâs go,â Ford says quietly, squeezing the boyâs shoulder.
Shermie hesitates and doesnât move until heâs gently pulled away. He only snaps out of his daze when he feels a hand grab his. He looks over at Cassandra and feels his gut twist painfully- no parent should have to bury their child.
She squeezes his hand gently and gives him a weak, but encouraging smile. He doesnât deserve it, but heâs grateful nonetheless. He trudges on, with his remaining family, feeling a large hole left by his deceased brother.

Not a Replacement
A Rockabye Ficlet
"I just want to help you! Tell me how and Iâll do it!â Stanford shouts.
âYou canât! Youâre not Stanley!â
Stanford grows quiet and heâs quick to turn his gaze away from his younger brother. âI know... I know Iâm not him and I could never take his place. I wouldnât want to anyway... but I do want to help.â
âI... I just want Stan...â Shermie whispers.
Stanfordâs gaze softens and he puts a hand on his shoulder. âI know... I want Stan, too... but he wants you to be happy. For as long as Iâve known him- and thatâs since birth- Stanâs only wanted his family happy. Even in the end Iâm sure Stan was more concerned about you than himself. He probably thought âat least Shermieâs safe.ââ
Shermie sniffles. âWhatâd we do to have a brother like him?â
Stanford smiles sadly. âNothing. But Iâm glad we got him as a brother regardless of how long we had him there.â
âMe... me too,â Shermie agrees.
âNow I know I canât replace him... but Iâll try my best to take care of you like he did. However to accomplish that I need you to let me in.â
Shermie grimaces a little and he loos up at Stanford. The young man was honestly sincere. While he hasnât had the closest relationship with Stanford, this is the only brother he has and he doesnât want to one day lose him and regret not spending time with him.
âAlright,â he says.
Irohâs Armor: Kagami
Summary: Prince Iroh- son of Fire Lord Azulon and his wife Ilah- has had many interactions with his soldiers. Some have made a deeper impact on him than others.
âConcentrate, Prince Iroh.â
Iroh takes a deep breath in. The fire within him is fueled and the light behind his eyelids grows brighter. He breathes out and the fire recedes and the light dims. His mind begins to wander to plans to advance the front further into Earth Kingdom territory.
A large burst of light and heat sends Iroh reeling back.
âWhat did I tell you?â Kagami demands as he cuts off his fireâs fuel. He stands and rubs his eyes. âWhat was it this time? A woman? The war? Politics? Food?â
âThe war,â Iroh replies, leaning back so his arms support him from his sitting position. âStrategies.â
Kagami gives an exasperated look. âAs brilliant as you are, your patience needs work.â
âI have plenty.â
âMore than most your age, but thatâs not gonna cut it,â Kagami states before he leans against the wall. âAgain.â
âNeed I remind you I am your prince and your commander?â Iroh snaps.
âNeed I remind you to respect your elders?â Kagami growls.
Iroh blinks. âWait... how old are you?â
âThirty-five,â he answers.
"Thatâs hardly a difference,â Iroh mutters.
âItâs enough.â
âI doubt it.â
âNever assume,â Kagami snaps. âJust because you are the crowned prince doesnât mean you get to shirk off your training. Now... again.â
In Search of the Big Dipper
Summary: The journal is not found and Dipper has been missing since a couple of weeks into living with their great uncle. With spring just around the corner will Mabel hold out and find her missing twin or will she be taken by child protective services from the only family she has left?
Trying out a new format inspired by a book I read called Full Cicada Moon by Marilyn Hilton- which I found in the childrenâs section. Itâs a good read so if youâre interested you can look it up and see if youâre interested. Anyway, I wanted to try a story in story format and see if I can complete an entire story for once.
I hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think.
Chapter 1: Wavering
Itâs spring.
Or at least what the groundhog said it was.
I havenât seen spring yet.
