Could we perhaps hear a bit about Briarpaw/pelt's former mentor?
it's so sweet of you to send an ask in! and yeah, i do plan on continuing this, but i'm currently in finals hell 😅 i hope to get some drawing done before summer is over! it means so, so incredibly much to me to see people going through my blog, and asks like this make me so happy that i started this :))
briarpelt's mentor was an older female warrior named snakejaw. she was heavily respected in the clan, fairly strict, and a gifted fighter. briarpelt was apprenticed to her because he was a troublesome, rowdy kit, and she was an experienced mentor who was more than capable of keeping him in line. since briarpelt was found as an abandoned kit by the clan, he looked up to her like family.
when the sickness hit the clan, snakejaw held out for longer than almost all the other warriors, but she was an older cat. eventually, even she got sick, and briarpelt's training slowed, then stopped. he was left to his own devices, and... well. you all have seen where that got him. when he went missing, snakejaw was feverish in the medicine den. she didn't discover that the kits were gone until someone told her, days later.
snakejaw is still alive in their former clan, though she has a nasty lingering cough from the illness, and can't get around as quickly as she used to. she took it hard when her apprentice went missing, and hasn't taken another since.
(the kits don't know that, of course. as far as briarpelt knows, his mentor died in the medicine den. most likely, they'll never know what happened to their clan.)
