hi in the last few months or so i've been trying to be healthier (gone to the gym every day and ate healthier) and i'm doing well but the only problem is at work they have snacks available that /everyone/ else eats all the time and it's so tempting? I feel really guilty afterwards but i was wondering if you have any tips on resisting temptation/snacking? thank you so much
Hi there! Congratulations on the strides you’ve made in eating healthier and working out! That’s wonderful!
Resisting snacks when they are so readily available and everyone else is eating them is hard, no doubt.
I have a couple of ideas that might help you and I’ll open it up to my followers to add any tips or tricks they use, also:
Bring your own snacks which fit into your healthy eating plan and eat those instead.
Ask whoever is buying them if they could substitute one healthier option for people or maybe bring healthier options once or twice a week or something. (I don’t know if these are brought in daily, like donuts, or something that is always there, like chips or cookies).
Decide. This is probably easier for me to do since I am keto and there are certain foods which I NEVER eat. Period. I think it’s harder for those of you who eat 80/20 where you can sometimes have certain foods, even tho they aren’t a staple of your diet. But, what it means, basically, is to make a firm decision about how you will act and make it part of yourself. Just like when you walk into a bank you don’t have to fight and argue with yourself to not rob it (I hope!), make the same type of fundamental decision about what you eat or don’t eat. Own it. Make it part of your personality. Make it who you are. This takes away the constant battle. You don’t rob banks. You don’t eat unhealthy snacks at work. Period. You can’t control your environment, but you really do have 100% control over yourself, even tho it sometimes feels like you don’t. Your mind is powerful, tap into that power and truly decide.
Practice saying ‘No, thank you.’ Sometimes, it’s hardest to turn down snacks or other foods when people offer them to you. Just practice saying ‘No, thank you.’ at home in the mirror. There is no further discussion needed! The more you elaborate, the more someone will try to talk you into it. Just a simple, ‘No, thank you.’ and then either change the subject or step away from the person if they look like they’re gonna argue with you.
Followers? What advice can you give for avoiding unhealthy snacks at work?
