Muuuummmmm what did you do to my home!!! #SmoothieBlue got a fresh set of shavings and nest material this morning buy he has far superior nest making skills so I leave that part to him. Yes he is in a tiny tub for his size and enrichment needs at the moment. This is done very deliberately as his is in post surgical recovery. When our residents are ill, or in recovery we make smaller, safe hospital tubs with a hide, nesting material water and food. This is essential to their safety and wellbeing during recovery. As soon as he hits his recovery markers we will commence slow reintroductions to friends so he can enjoy all that colony life has to offer. For a desexed male with history of hormonal aggression, we are looking at 3 to 4 weeks before colony life is a safe option to explore. #SmoothieBlue and I working on our #Halloween2020 outfit choreography. SmoothieBlue has had a really textbook recovery from his desexing surgery and we are now just waiting out the 2 week period until he can be put into a colony again. 2 weeks allows any remaining sperm to die off so that the colony choice can be male or female. 2 weeks also gives time for the hormones to settle. My sweet little #SmoothieBlue in his home made recovery nest after his desexing on Thursday. He is still on pain relief at this point, very sore and very snuggly. We had 3 boys go through desexing Thursday with three more booked for Tuesday and possibly a further 3 on Wednesday. In all 9 cases, we are supporting a second chance at life. One which isn't ruled by hormones, anger and isolation. One that allows for friends, snuggle puddles and furever families. We cannot offer these guys this second chance without help.
