Please teach your friends and family not to use poisons or glue traps! Not only is it a terrible way for a rat to die, but it kills our native birds of prey. Controlling wild rats and mice is an unfortunate reality of urban living and introduced species, sad I know, but often neccesary - we need to do better, do it humanely. Regularly checked live traps with a humane euthanasia method readily available, or quick kill traps and patience are more humane than slow painful deaths and dead natives. And you know what the best method of all is? Build nesting boxes for your local owls, and promote prey bird populations in your area, they're the swiftest hunters of all. Learn to identify the species in your home so you can be sure you're not harming native rats and mice as well!
