A Small White Cylindrical Lie.

It was just a small white lie a couple of years ago. I had honestly forgotten all about it.

It happened whilst filling out the application form. Amongst all the boring details. Name, address, education levels. Height, weight, natural hair colour etc. It was only to do a bit of modelling at the weekends. Help pay my way. I sat there one rainy Sunday and filled in the form.

I’ve always been seen as a pretty girl. I know I can get men's heads to turn as I walk past. My friends used to say, “you should be a model.” I would sit and dream.

Deep down I knew that me, actually modelling wasn't actually going to pay the bills so did the proper life route. I went to university and the graduate training program. Rather than saying “model” on my CV it says, “Corporate Consultant.”

It is a distraction from another week of travelling in endless airports and making people redundant. I'm not HR, but ultimately reducing headcount saves businesses. Then the smoke hit my lungs. I coughed. I couldn’t help myself. I’m a stubborn bitch. Ultimately, I found out that I could smoke. The second puff was better.

I looked up at Cassandra and hopefully grinned. “I will need a glass of water.” I croaked.

“Excellent let's get on!”

That's how I stood there looking out the window, the smoke ticking my nose. Camera clicking. The smell reeked, but on request I kept dragging on cigarette after cigarette. I felt woozy, but ultimately it tasted rather nice.
