Feet pounding the compacted earth of the forest floor. Heart hammering in your chest. Wrong. You can feel it where it’s simmered in your guts since your divine sense told you what it was. It’s wrong. An affront, aberrant. The voice in your head is your god and her words thunder through your mind with enough force to make your vision go staticky, she’s pouring her power into you, and with it comes her rage, a match for your own.

Wr’glth Nhegal, the Worm Hunger, ascending god of rot, stands amidst the wildings with its flesh crawling and warping beneath the featureless white cloak and mask, the psychic gravity its producing impossible to resist. The party are flat to the ground struggling to rise- as the furious enemy castigates the Veilborn Septarchs within them; it rages in the face of the children who have thwarted it for so long.
The Septarchs rise to meet the challenge, only to be forced to the ground by psychic power greater than they can overcome. They can do naught but watch in awe as the paladin roars into the clearing, the god too focused on its fury against them to realize the danger until it is far too late.
Xia’ind, the septarch within Zagähk, died in the fight against wriglths avatar months ago so Zagähk could live. He lost his psychic connection then. He lost the tether the rest of his friends and allies shared. And in this moment it saves him. Inured to the psychic gravity he is within striking distance before the worm hunger even knows something is wrong.
“Get away from my friends,” Zagähk Thulanathi, Champion of Resha says, and strikes.
In honor of the natural 20 my Paladin player rolled on the once a campaign 9th lvl smite I allowed him. The dice and the narrative repercussions and consequences of the parties actions throughout the campaign so far turned an impossible situation into an impossible victory.

Super quick doodle for D&D because I've been feeling artistically a bit dead lately and thought "Hey ill just scribble something that's happening in game right now and who cares if it looks even faintly polished."
Mad Merx: Fury Hellscape
Something I’ve always wondered: does Smite Evil work on conventional evils, say, the kind of person who’d be a villain on Leverage?

Blood Hunters, Paladins, Dusk Knights, and Those Who Work in the Dark: What’s the Difference Between Them All?
The title says it all, doesn’t it?
There’s 7 people here in the Collective who specialize in fighting evil: @wearepaladin, @weareduskknight, @wearedark-knight, @wearewitchslayer, @wearedemonhunter, @weareinquisitor, and myself, @we-are-blood-hunter. There’s a decent amount of overlap between these, so what is the difference between them all?
I won’t pretend to fully understand each and every one of these classes down to their core, but I think I can get it down to the bare bones. Without further ado…
Let’s start with paladins. Paladins, in a nutshell, are holy champions who have sworn an oath to a deity and take up arms against evil. They are bearers of the light, and they wield that light in battle. See @wearepaladin for a better look at paladins.
Inquisitors share the religious aspect with paladins, but they do not bear the light as paladins do. They also tend to deal with internal matters within their religions, such as heretics. See @weareinquisitor for more information.
Dusk knights are “cloaked hunters,” as @weareduskknight describes them. They work in the shadows, targeting evil but staying hidden until they strike. They don’t come bursting in, light streaming behind them: they tend more toward “subtle” actions.
Witch slayers and demon hunters specifically target witches and demons, respectively. Check out @wearewitchslayer and @wearedemonhunter for more on these warriors.
Dark knights are “good people with bad powers,” to quote @wearedark-knight. They use the darkness against the darkness.
And so we come to the blood hunter. The blood hunter is most similar to the dark knight out of all of these, in that they wield powers associated with the darkness against the darkness. Their powers are different. The blood hunter uses blood magic, alchemical mutagens, ordinary warlock magic, and lycanthropy to battle evil; dark knights wield darkness. If you want to learn more about blood hunters, check out this blog.
So, there we go. I don’t know if this is helpful to anyone here, but you can use the links provided for more information if you want.
