when it comes to pokémon, he hates the idea of trading. he doesn't discourage it for other people, but the first time he traded a pokémon it left an uncomfortable weight in his chest, which he later understood as the wrongness that came with treating a teammate as expendable, giving away something that was his. though he knows that you can't truly own a living thing, his pokémon still feel like his & his alone. when he & hikari traded eipam & buoysel, even though they both agreed that it would be better for the pokémon in the long run, satoshi still felt oddly jealous, as eipam had followed him all the way from hoenn to kanto, & part of him really did not want to complete the trade if only because of that possessiveness that he could acknowledge in all but name.

he also doesn't like loaning his pokémon to other people, even if they can help them in some way. there's very few people satoshi trusts with his pokémon & those are takeshi & kasumi, professor ookido & shigeru, hikari, & his alola classmates & family, as well as nurse joys, of course. he doesn't like being separated from his pokémon as a rule, usually digging his heels in if someone suggests that he leave them with someone else, though especially so with pikachu.
