Small Group Feedback Session #2
In preparation for our first critique of your studio projects coming up next week on October 16th and 18th, we will spend some time today talking with your small groups about where your projects have evolved.
To refresh, the small groups are:
Miro, Andrea, Simone, Duy
To help guide your conversation, use the following questions to get started talking about what you plan to show for the critique next week:
What, specifically, is it that you intend to make? How does this artwork fit into the larger project?
What is this work inspired by?
What is the concept, process or function of your piece/s?
What is the scale?
What materials do you intend to use and why? How do the materials and techniques you are choosing strengthen the concept or function of your work?
What sensation or mood do you want your work to embody?
What do you wish your work to communicate?
How do you intend to present your work for final critique?
Show your work in progress to help the conversation be as productive as possible. If you have materials, mock ups, sketches or samples, please be sure to allow your group members to see your progress so far so that they can provide feedback and suggestions.
I will need one page of notes per artist at the end of class to insure that you receive credit for the small group feedback session.
These two images are of an important project by artist Mike Kelley called “Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites” made from from untidy clusters of plush toys suspended from the ceiling and sleekly lacquered reliefs attached to surrounding walls. The 10 wall base components of the project activate the work as dispensers of pine-scented air freshener, which automatically send their cleansing spray into the room at timed intervals.
(If this project made in this class, I would image for one critique, we would look at the hanging work, for another, the wall based work that dispenses scent, and for the final work, we would see both components at work together, with additional hanging works added in. )
