8. “I Wish You Well, From Afar”  _______________________________________________________________ Lately I’ve been noticing a pattern, the way storms love to complain about the rain but never move toward higher ground.

Some people catalog their pain like receipts, folded neatly, pulled out on cue, re-read until the ink fades but the story doesn’t. Same chapter. Same paragraph. Same ache, rebranded as conversation.

And I sit there, holding answers like lanterns— clear, warm, offered without force. Paths lit plainly: turn inward, look up, kneel if you have to, step into a room where growth is the point, where leadership starts with responsibility, where faith isn’t a cliché but a recalibration.

But the lanterns stay untouched. Because some people don’t want the light. They want the dark echo.

They circle the problem like it’s sacred ground, build shrines out of what hurt them, and confuse familiarity with truth. They say they want change, but they’re loyal to the story that keeps them still.

There’s a particular exhaustion that comes from watching someone hijack the moment… steering every road back to the same old wreckage. A love-that-wasn’t, a situation that expired seasons ago but still gets CPR in every conversation.

At some point, empathy turns into enablement. Listening becomes permission. And I can’t be the audience anymore.

I’ve learned that boundaries don’t always slam doors. Sometimes they whisper. Sometimes they step back quietly, stop explaining, stop engaging, stop circling.

It’s cut off season in a slow fade— not punishment, not cruelty, just the natural distance that forms when growth and stagnation stop speaking the same language.

I’m not abandoning anyone. I’m choosing not to drown with them.

There’s a difference between compassion and letting someone rent space in your nervous system. Between being supportive and being held hostage by a story that refuses to evolve.

Protecting my peace doesn’t look dramatic. It looks like shorter responses. Gentler exits. A calendar that honors my future more than someone else’s unresolved past.

It looks like choosing silence over explaining myself for the hundredth time. Like trusting that the right people won’t require me to shrink, or stay stuck, or pretend the train isn’t clearly off the tracks.

I still wish them well. I just don’t wish to stay.

Because I’m learning that growth is noisy at first, but peace is unmistakably quiet. And I intend to listen to it.
