The Queen's mouth curls ever so slightly downward as she looks upon the Shade of her beloved, head tipping ever so slightly. “You’re not … but then again, neither am I. You and I have not been the same as we were for a very long time now.” Something about the Twilight, about being Ganon’s puppet, had changed something within Zelda. She had never been quite the same. Link’s death had further changed her. Outwardly, she was still the same monarch she’d always been: stern, yet benevolent to her subjects. Fierce and unyielding to her enemies. Inwardly, she’d grown quiet. She cried at twilight, longing for friends who’d been cast from this world. She yearned for Midna and her ever-present, spitfire attitude. She wished for Link’s strength, his hand in hers whenever she needed to ground herself. “We are never the same, Link. A hundred lives, a hundred worlds, you and I have always found each other. Twilight had lifted from the realm ages ago, every day that’d come after filled with sunshine and joy. This, though, this was worse than the gloom. His blood stains her pale flesh as she presses her hands to his chest, the Queen’s brow creased in sorrow. “Of course, my love.” She nods even as tears drip silently down her face, the sword that had gone through his chest seemingly mocking her from a few feet away as it glints red in the dying light of the day. For a moment Zelda wonders what Midna would do if she were here, if she’d be able to do anything. She wonders if Midna would scream to the gods and curse them, or if she’d simply sit and weep.
