Mind far afield, it was one of those days where he couldn't tell you which route he'd taken to get to the theatre - probably the same one he generally took but he really couldn't say - couldn't say what he'd had for breakfast or whether he'd had breakfast, or whether it was even breakfast time anymore.
Script in hand, he'd been drafted, thank god, into the not combat-veteran role, and found it fucking nauseating to even look at the way the guy opposite him had a red and white kiffiyeh slung around his neck like a goddamn hipster scarf. "So here we are?" the guy began again at the behest of Cousineau, to which Barry replied a little flatly, "Yes, Mr. Garcin." Gar-sin? Gar-seen? He'd been told flat, no blinking. They were all dead after all. He barely heard the guy reply "And this is what it looks like?" before he was spitting out, "Yes." An enormous pause.
Where the fuck was Sally. She was the scorned heiress who was damned for adultery or something and she was supposedly entering soon. While Garcin monologued about furniture styles, he caught sight of her in the wings, decked in some fantastic assemblage meant to convey the general drape of an evening gown. He was distracted enough that there was another large pause between Garcin's "Bogus in bogus, so to speak," before Barry swore under his breath and searched the script for his line.
"And you'll find that living in a Second Empire drawing-room has its points," he said a bit breathlessly, before shaking his head, making a point of catching Sally's gaze in the wings. On the verge of actually losing consciousness, Barry heard Cousineau call for a break and made his way backstage on wooden legs. "This one-act shit is fucking garbage," he breathed. "I don't care if its supposed to symbolize hell. I don't wanna do it anymore."
