I still remember that neighbour who studied to be a teacher that my parents used to hire to babysit me, even when I was a teenager.

It was part of the typical arrangement. My parents were able to go out for dinner and some fun without any remorse of letting their son alone and she got some pocket money.

I have many memories of her.

First of all, it was quite obvious that my father had a crush on her and she got generous tips from him every evening she was called. On the other hand, as a student to be a teacher, my mum considered her a lot because of her strictness. She had given her authority to punish me in any way she felt proper and she even showed her the cupboard where the cane of the house was kept in.

As soon as my parents left she usually made herself as comfy as possible at home. She did not pay too much attention to me but she always set two conditions.

If she felt disturbed by my behaviour, the first warning was to be made with a painful slippering.

Any second disruption meant be getting six of the best with the cane and to be sent to bed immediately. I don't know if she learnt to use the cane at college but in spite of her youth, she was very skilled caner. It really hurt for days!
