i think what's frustrating me the most about this is the fact it's just another example/continuing the pattern of what's been bugging me in rivals and overwatch, which is: support/healer = woman. woman character = support/healer.
with the problem being that out of the 3 roles in both games --tank, dps, healer-- it's only the healer class that gets mostly women characters. to spell it out, it perpetuates an association of women = non-violent non-action helper healer waif passive characterization.
ever hear the (misogynist) take on the internet that only "girls" play support? the insult being against women, obvs, but also that support as a role --with its cast being mostly women (hmm see the correlation?)-- is seen as a do-nothing no-skill useless role that only exists to pump out heals to the 'real' players. it's a layered misogyny sandwich of an idea that pervades the culture surrounding these kinds of games.
it's exhausting.
