Sleep

At first, Sleep feels like an idea better suited to a short. Maybe even an absurd 11-minute Ren & Stimpy episode. The premise? A husband grows violent in his sleep, and his wife, concerned but supportive, tries to help him while growing increasingly unsettled. For a while, it plays like a horror-comedy stripped of jokes, its pacing almost daring you to lose patience. You can’t help but think, how can this possibly sustain two hours?
But what starts from a grounded setup gradually escalates into something far stranger. By the final act, Sleep has pulled off a sharp role reversal that completely changes your sympathies, and a ghost story twist that proves well-earned. Sleep isn't a classic, but it is one of the better horror films from 2023.
