I've admired ur blog for a while, and i luvvvvvv it. especially being a huge slam dunk fan who keeps rewatching it đź.
If u have time, can u do like a rukawa x reader fic where reader is basically Kainan's manager? they have a 2 year age gap because reader is a 3rd year, Quiet, Observant, Reserved, but has a sly personality? They are really smart in terms of basketball that they are an important part of Kainan like a "brain"??? (that reminds me sm of Kenma)
Also, can the fics setting be in a like practice match or training camp (you choose!!!!)
âTake ur time!! âĄ

Sometimes you think no one else has ever felt that way except you. That feeling that everyone else knows less than you do. Not because theyâre stupid, but simply because you know more. Because your brain works completely differently.
At school, that made you an outsider, the annoying swot. Someone for whom what others considered too little was never enough. It seemed as though you were never satisfied. But there was one place where you werenât just welcome, but where your talent was also appreciated: the Kainan High School basketball team.
It was secretly your favourite place in the world. You felt right at home there. Itâs just that... well, your highly strategic, sharp mind came with the downside that you tended to be rather introverted emotionally. Strong emotions quickly overwhelmed you.
For that reason, the Kainan lads usually left you in peace. Except when it came to preparing for an important match. Then at least one of them was constantly by your side, trying to persuade you to help out.
That was exactly why you were on your way to your schoolâs smart new sports hall. Youâd paired your forest-green sports shorts with a white T-shirt that was far too big. Youâd slicked your hair back into a tight bun. You hated it when your hair fell into your face. It drove you crazy.
___ _ _ _
Sneakers screeched against polished dark wood, as you opend the doors to the gym. Basketballs struck the floor in rapid and harmonious rhythm. Someone on Kainanâs bench was yelling at Jin to stop hogging all the towels again. And coach looked like he said the same thing over and over again. Everything was just as usual. And that was a good thing. It meant you could relax. You didnât have to come up with any new strategy to navigate social situations.
The training session was in full swing, so you quietly made your way to the substitutes' bench. You simply dropped your bag on the floor beside you.
___ _ _ _
And through all of training, you sat quietly at the scorerâs table with a clipboard balanced against your knee, completely untouched by the chaos. That was your job. To develop strategies against the opposing team, observe them and identify patterns. And that is exactly what you were just been discussing with the boys.
âY/n-senpai,â Kiyota groaned dramatically, leaning over your shoulder,âYou wrote six whole pages on Shohoku.â
âSeven,â you corrected without looking up.
âTHATâS WORSE.â
You finally lifted your eyes, calm and unreadable,âIf youâd stop jumping at every fake pump shot, I couldâve kept it at five.â
The team burst into laughter while Kiyota collapsed onto the floor in betrayal. Takasago wheezed,âShe got you again. Y/n youre so funny.â
You hid the faintest smile behind your clipboard. Most people underestimated you at first. They labled you almost every time as the quiet, polite and reserved girl from the 3rd year. And also most of the time, after two minutes, they realized Kainanâs entire defensive adjustment system ran through you.
Coach Takato trusted your reads more than assistant coaches sometimes. That was the highest compliment you could get. Before every major match, you were the one charting player habits, weak-side tendencies, stamina drop-offs, emotional triggers.
You noticed everything. Your eyes as sharp as the ones of an eagle. Which earned you the nicknames eagle eye or queen of chess. Which was precisely why Rukawa Kaedeâs behavior had become so entertaining lately.
You noticed him before he even walked into the gym. The heavy doors slid open. Shohokuâs infamous rookie stepped inside with that same detached expression he always wore, basketball tucked beneath one arm. Practice jersey loose. Half-asleep eyes.
The room shifted slightly at his presence. Kiyota immediately scowled,âWhyâs the fox here?â
âHeâs here for the joint practice tomorrow,â Coach Takato answered. Rukawa barely acknowledged anyone, well expect you. But only in the form of a tiny little glance. It was subtle. Most people wouldâve missed it. But you noticed the brief pause in his stride when he saw you at the scorerâs table. The near-imperceptible shift of his gaze.
___ _ _ _
For about a year and a half now, it had become a tradition to play friendly matches together. The School Sports Association wanted to use this to encourage exchanges between schools. This year, Kainan had been drawn against Shohoku. Secretly, you were looking forward to it a little. It was going to be a very entertaining weekend.
___ _ _ _
The way he walked toward the water coolers despite there being one significantly closer to him. You pretended not to notice. For you, it was more fun that way.
âManager,âHis voice was low and flat as usual.
You looked up slowly,âRukawa.â
Kiyota looked personally offended that you knew his name. Rukawa stood there silently for a moment,ââŚYou analyzed our Sannoh game.â
Not a question.
âYou noticed?â you asked. He stared at you. That was answer enough. Of course he noticed, it was Kaede...golden boy of the Shohoku basketball club. Rukawa noticed basketball the way predators noticed movement of their prey.
âI liked your rotation prediction,â he said. Kiyota made a choking noise somewhere in the background. You tilted your head slightly, grinning,âOnly liked? I feel offendedâ
Rukawa blinked once, clearly not expecting teasing from you,âIt was accurate.â
There it was. High praise, at least in the weird "Rukawa language". You hummed softly. âThen Iâm honored.â
He stayed there. Not leaving, not speaking either. He was just standing there. Beside your table with all the conversational abilities of a brick wall.
You waited patiently, curious to see what would happen next. Even though your analysis of the situation had already suggested a possible next step of his. This had become a pattern recently. Rukawa would appear near you for increasingly ridiculous reasons.
Borrowing tape he clearly didnât need. Or asking for game notes he already memorized. And another time he was standing suspiciously close during joint practices. Once, he even sat beside you for nearly twenty minutes in complete silence while you organized stat sheets.
Youâd timed him. Today, apparently, his strategy was staring. It was new, refreshing and it was absolutely no use if you wanted to grow closer to someone you really liked.
âYouâre trying very hard lately,â you said casually. His eyes narrowed slightly,âAt what?â
It was cute, you thouhgt,âGetting my attention.â
Dead silence. Across the gym, Kiyota sensed drama and immediately stopped stretching. Rukawa looked at you for a long moment,ââŚIs it working?â
You nearly laughed. Not because it was smooth, because it was so painfully direct. So completely Rukawa. You just knew him so well. And sometimes even you were surprised by the extent of it. He was just so full of blunt honesty, that was delivered with the emotional expression of a housecat.
You rested your chin lightly against your hand,âI noticed weeks ago.â
Rukawa looked genuinely caught off guard,ââŚOh.â
âAnd,â you continued calmly, âI wanted to see how long it would take before you realized I knew.â
Another pause. Then, unexpectedly, the faintest hint of annoyance crossed his face,âYouâre mean.â
You smiled properly this time. Kiyota gasped in horror from across the court,âY/n-SENPAI CAN SMILE?!â
Neither of you acknowledged him. Rukawa studied your expression carefully, like he was memorizing it,âYouâre different when you smile.â
âMost people are,â you laughed.
âHn,âThere was that look again. The one he always got during games. Weirdly focused and so full of intent. Rather studying. Except now it was completely focused entirely at you. And to be honest, it shouldâve been unsettling. As you didnt like attention that much. But instead, you found it strangely endearing. It was lovely to know that I was seen in that way.
âYou like smart girls,â you observed.
"Yes,âNo hesitation.
"And you think Iâm smart," you teased him further.
âYes.â
Again, immediate. You tapped your pen lightly against your clipboard,âYouâre straightforward.â
âYou hate dishonesty,â he defended himself. You paused. Interesting. Not many people noticed things about you. You looked at him more carefully then. Rukawa wasnât very socially skilled. Everyone knew that. But him being observant? Terrifyingly so. Of course heâd notice.
He watched games down to foot placement and breathing patterns. Human behavior wasnât that different. âYouâve been observing me too,â you said softly.
âHn,âA tiny confession from the outside, but a huge deal coming from Rukawa. You looked away first this time, hiding your amusement. Oh he was such a dangerous boy. âYou know,â you murmured, âmost people try harder to impress girls they like.â
âI am.â
Your brows lifted. Rukawa nodded toward the clipboard in your hands,âI asked Akagi for your defensive notes from the Shoyo match.â
That was actually devastatingly effective, because he understood. Flowers wouldnât impress you most likely, he figured as much. But valuing your mind? Using your strategies seriously? Listening when you spoke about basketball and what you had to say about it?
That mattered. It mattered to you, so it mattered to him. Also it helped that it was basketball, because honestly what did the boy care about other than his sport. And somehow this quiet, basketball-obsessed boy had figured it out. Had figured you out. You exhaled slowly through your nose,ââŚThat was clever.â
A tiny shift in his expression. It was satisfaction. He was proud of himself. Like heâd just scored. Cute. Very cute.
___ _ _ _
Practice resumed around you both, noisy and chaotic again, but neither of you moved immediately. Then Rukawa spoke quietly,âYouâre graduating soon.â
Not a question, but you nodded,âMm.â
âI donât like that.â
Your heart betrayed you with one stupid little flutter. There was something unfair about the way he spoke. Simple truths delivered with complete sincerity. You closed your clipboard,âThen youâll have to make good use of the time left, wonât you?â
Rukawa stared at you. And slowly, very very slowly he smirked. Like he finally realized youâd been letting him chase you on purpose,ââŚI will.â

Life hadn't always been kind to you. Within seven years, you'd had to change schools five times. Your mum thought you should make a fresh start. You were very quiet and sometimes very shy. It hadn't always been easy for you to get on with others. Your mum had always hoped things would get better once you hit puberty. But now you were seventeen and not much had actually changed. Not much, apart from one thing: you started to dance ballet at the age of five.
You were immersed in a world of tulle, bows, discipline and raw emotions. You were able to express what you couldnât put into words. It had become your preferred way of communicating with the world around you.
___ _ _ _
And that was exactly the world he had stumbled into: the first time you met Rukawa Kaede, you were six years old and furious. Very furious. The reason for your annoyance was the public basketball court. Its was the only flat, smooth space large enough for you to practice dance routines outside of class. And it was free. Your mum didnât earn much back then, so you could only afford to go to the dance studio for your lessons. You couldnât go there to practise like the other girls did.
Your tiny ballet slippers slapped against the concrete as you rehearsed steps your teacher had shown you. Then, suddenly, a basketball bounced into your head. You turned around, ready to cry. Instead, you saw another child glaring back,"Move."
"No," you replied furiously.
"I need the court," the other kid spoke, no intend of leaving. "I was here first," you stated, getting angrier by the minute. The argument lasted twenty minutes and neither of you backed down. Eventually, Rukawa's auntâyour dance teacherâfound the two of you standing in the middle of the court, arms crossed and refusing to move.
She sighed. But being the adult in this situation, she tried to find a solution. So she made a schedule: the mornings belonged to you. Afternoons belonged to Rukawa. It was simple, but neither of you liked this deal. Also neither of you complained.
___ _ _ _
So the years passed and this silly little schedule remained. Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, a folded sheet of paper stayed taped to the fence. Whenever one of you needed extra time, a note would appear: Need thirty more minutes. Competition soon.
Then a day later: Fine.
That was basically an entire conversation between you. Over the years the two of you never spoke more than that to each other. The time went on and you became a dancer. Rukawa on the other hand, became a basketball player. Both of you were frighteningly serious about it. For you it meant getting a scholarship into a good school, for him it was his passion. Neither of you had many friends. And neither of you spoke much. The court became a strange sort of shared territory.
You'd arrive and find a sports drink left on the bench. No note. You knew it was him. The next week he'd find energy bars. No note. But he knew they were from you. That was just how things worked.
___ _ _ _
By the time high school arrived, you could almost predict each other's movements: When it rained, he'd practice under the covered area nearby. When your ankle hurt, he'd silently move his training farther away so the sound of the ball wouldn't distract you. You never thanked each other. You never needed to.
Then one Saturday, everything changed: Rukawa arrived at exactly 3:00 PM. As the schedule said. But the court was empty. He frowned. You were never late. Not once in over ten years. Normally, you wouldn't let him take up any of your precious minutes on the court. But today... you weren't even there, were you?
His eyes moved toward the fence. A single flyer fluttered beneath the schedule: Tokyo Youth Ballet Company Auditions. Today's date. Auditions started thirty minutes ago. For a moment, he simply stared at it. Then he looked at the empty court again.
The silence felt wrong. No tapping of your royal blue point shoes. It was simply too quiet for Rukawas liking. Without fully understanding why, he picked up the flyer. And got on his bike. The theater wasn't far.
___ _ _ _
By the time he arrived, auditions were already underway. The receptionist nearly stopped him before he slipped into the back of the auditorium. The stage lights were bright. Dozens of dancers waited offstage. Music echoed through the hall. Rukawa sat down. Mostly because he'd already come all this way. At least, that's what he told himself.
Then you walked onto the stage. And the world stopped. Rukawa had seen you dance thousands of times: On concrete, on cracked pavement, on rainy afternoons or freezing winter mornings. He thought he knew what you looked like when you danced. He was wrong.
You looked different here. Like you belonged somewhere he had never seen before. The blue point shoes were paired with a matching tutu. It had a golden rose embroidered onto the body, whereas the skirt faded from a dark blue to a white color. You looked amazing, like a godess. Every movement was effortless. Every turn perfectly controlled. The music seemed to follow you, your emotions. Not the other way around. It was like the audience disappeared. The judges disappeared. Basically everything disappeared.
Except you. You shone bright like a beautiful star. Rukawa forgot about basketball for a minute, as he watched you enchant him. When the performance ended, the entire auditorium remained silent for a heartbeat. Then applause erupted. The judges were smiling, like actually smiling. A rare sight in the ballet world.
Rukawa felt something twist painfully inside his chest. Something unfamiliar. Something uncomfortable. Something he couldn't dribble away. Because suddenly a thought appeared. A terrifying thought: She's going to leave. Maybe Tokyo. To get professional training. To build a career, a future. All things you deserved. All things that would take you away from the court. Away from him.
___ _ _ _
The realization hit harder than any loss he'd ever experienced. You got accepted. Of course you did. The results came a week later. The announcement was taped right beside the schedule. You'd probably wanted him to see it.
Congratulations. That was the note he left. The longest message he'd ever written to you.
The next morning, he arrived early. For some reason. Maybe because he wanted one last practice before you left. Maybe because he wanted to avoid you. Maybe because he didn't understand what was happening to him. Instead, he found you already there. Sitting on the bench. Staring at the schedule,"You saw it."
You held up the acceptance letter. He nodded,"Congratulations."
Silence. Then you smiled. A small, cute one. The kind only people who had known each other for years could recognize,"I haven't accepted yet."
Rukawa looked at you,"What?"
You laughed softly. The sound surprised both of you,"You sound shocked Rukawa."
"You got in," he stated, sounding more like a question.
"I know," you laughed at his confusion.
"Then why?," he bluntly asked. You stared toward the court. The same court that had started everything,"Because I'm scared."
That confession stunned him more than anything. You? Scared? The girl who practiced until her feet bled? Who danced through all types of injuries? Who never missed a day of training?
"I've never been anywhere else," you admitted, getting a little flushed. You smiled weakly,"This place is kind of home."
The words settled between you. Heavy. Then Rukawa spoke before thinking. A rare mistake,"You should go."
You blinked.
"If it's what you want,"His voice was quiet, steady. Even though his chest felt like it was breaking apart,"You'll regret staying eventually."
You stared at him. For a long time. Then your expression softened,"You really think so?"
"Yeah."
Silence again. But this time it wasn't awkward. You stood up. Walked toward him. Then reached into your bag. A folded piece of paper.
"What is this?," Rukawa asked directly. "The new schedule," you replied with a soft smile. He unfolded it. Saturday. 10 AM. Court. Winter Break. Sunday. 2 PM. Court. Summer Vacation. Random dates. Random years.
All planned far into the future. His eyes widened slightly. You smiled. A real smile this time,"No matter where I go, I'm still coming back."
Rukawa felt his heartbeat stumble. Then you tilted your head,"Besides."
"What?"
"You'd probably forget to eat if I wasn't around," you giggled.
Rukawa stared. You laughed. And suddenly he realized something. Not at the audition. Not when he watched you dance. Not when he thought you were leaving. He'd probably been falling in love with you for years.
Can you do the same former MVP headcannon with Shohoku boys but this time with the GoM boys on how would they react to their gf when they found that she used to be MVP for many different times in a row of UTokyo before transferring to their respective hi-school? Thanks in advance, and thank you also for the other headcannon that you made, it was fun reading it.

___ _ _ _
Growing up with a Division One player for a mum wasnât exactly a walk in the park. Several hours of training a day, on top of school. There were no other hobbies apart from sport. So, naturally, I didnât have many friends either. But luckily, there was still your father. He was, by his own admission, a rather mediocre basketball player. Heâd once played in the third division, but then had to give up the sport due to an injury.
Your father was much more relaxed when it came to sport. For him, having fun was always the top priority. Your mother, a former captain of the US junior national volleyball team, saw things differently: she believed that only hard training would get you ahead.
Since you had no choice but to follow in your parentsâ footsteps, it had to be one of those two sports. Youâd opted for basketball. There were much higher expectations attached to that... or so youâd believed at the time.
It wasnât as if you didnât enjoy sport, but your mum had always been a strict coach. To be fair, though, that was what had got you to the top. Several regional finals, national championships and even selection for the national squad for international competitions. To put it simply, you were a beast. Your fitness, speed and agility made you an unstoppable force on the court.
Itâs just a shame that didnât carry over to your current situation. Youâve been at a new school for about six months now, with no friends, inconsistent grades, and somehow things just havenât been going well.
Until you found the slightly smudged flyer for the basketball team in the rain...
Takenori Agaki
Nearly everyone already gone. It was already late. And not everyone had been lucky enough to learn iron will from their mother. Besides, you didn't want to go home yet. That would mean you'd have to get back to studying. You were still in the gymâkneeling by the bench, gathering stray towels like always.
âStop doing everything yourself.â
The familiar voice made you glance up. Akagi stood over you, arms crossed, expression firmâbut not unkind. You smiled,âIâm almost done.â
âThatâs not the point.â Before you could protest, he bent down and picked up the rest of the towels with you. Typical. Stubborn. Reliable. That were only a few points of what made your boyfriend so lovable.
___ _ _ _
It wasnât supposed to happen like this. Akagi was helping you with cleaning up the gym. He wasnât the type to snoopâbut when he brought all the dirty towls to the laundry bin he found the file with your name, he couldnât ignore it. When he opened itâHe froze.
MVP. Again. And again. And again. Tournament records. Stats. Recognition tied to University of Tokyoâs program. With a brisk stride, he made his way back to you, back into the hall. His grip tightened,ââŚYou played at this level?â
âAkagi?âYou stood in the doorway, eyes landing immediately on the file in his hands. Silence. Thenâ ââŚYeah,â you admitted quietly.
He stared at you, brows drawn,âWhy didnât you tell me?â
You looked away,âIt didnât matter anymore.â
âThatâs not true.âHis voice was firmâsharper than usual, but not angry.
âSomeone who reaches this level doesnât just âmove on.ââ
You flinched slightly.He noticed,ââŚDid something happen?â
You hesitated, then sighed,ââŚIt stopped being fun.â
That made him go quiet.
âWinning wasnât enough. It just felt like pressure all the time,â you continued,âI couldnât enjoy it anymore. My mum wanted it more than I wanted it I guess...â
Akagi exhaled slowly, tension easing just a little,ââŚSo you stepped away.â
You nodded. He was silent for a moment before handing the file back to you,âThereâs nothing weak about that.â
Your eyes widened slightly.
âBut donât act like it meant nothing either,â he added, gaze steady,âYou donât get this far without loving basketball.â
Your chest tightened,ââŚI donât know if I still do.â
âYou do.â
No hesitation and no doubt. Akagi stepped closer, his voice quieter nowâbut just as firm,âIâve seen the way you watch practice.â
Your breath caught.
ââŚThat doesnât disappear.â
For a moment, neither of you spoke. Then he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. ââŚIf you ever want to play again,â he said, not meeting your eyes this time, âIâll practice with you.â
___ _ _ _
Later that eveningâ You stood at the edge of the court, a ball in your hands.
Hesitating.
Thenâ You dribbled. Once. Twice. It felt almost instantly⌠familiar. When you glanced up, Akagi was already there, watching. Just⌠waiting. The faint nod he gave you said everything.
Rukawa Kaede
Dribble. Side step. Dribble. Shoot. Swish. A steady rhythm filled the more or less empty gym. Rukawa didnât even glance at you when you walked in. He rarely did during practiceâwhether it was official or just him, alone, chasing perfection like always.
âYouâre going to overwork yourself again,â you said, leaning against the wall. No response. Instead another shot. It landed. As always.
ââŚRukawa,âyou tried again. Sometimes you wondered what had led you to choose this particular person as your lover. Basketball was everything to him. He only ate to keep his energy up; school was just something he had to do, and everything else... well, you had to force him to his luck.
âGo home if youâre tired,â he muttered, already retrieving the ball. Right. That was his version of concern: Straight forward, almost sounding rude.
You sighed, used to it.
___ _ _ _
It wasnât until later that he noticed. Not from you. Never from you. You had retrieved from basketball and itented for it to stay this way.
Instead he found out from a magazine someone had left behind in the gym. A feature on past tournament MVPs.
Your face was there. More than once. Really big and prominent. The face he grew to like so much....on a page of a basketball magazine...confusion, just pure confusion. You only picked up the ball when you absolutely had to.
___ _ _ _
The next day, he found you. No greeting. he walked torwards you as if he wanted to break up. What the hell was up with him???
He just held the magazine out in front of you,ââŚThis you?â
You froze. There it was. Your ânot so littleâ secret,âWelllâŚYeah?!.â
That was all you gave him. Rukawa stared at you for a few seconds. Processing.
Thenâit seemingly hit him,ââŚWhy didnât you say anything?â
His tone wasnât accusatory. Just flat. Direct. Very him, as always. You shrugged slightly,âDidnât seem important.â
ââŚIt is.âThat answer came immediately.
Silence settled between you. Then Rukawa spoke again,ââŚPlay.â
You blinked,âI...What?â
âPlay against me.â
Of course. Of course that was his reaction. He wasnt shocked, no....It was a challenge. Because to him, this wasnât some dramatic reveal.
It was rather simple actually: You were strong. So he wanted to see it. Maybe beat you, depending on how good you were.
âYouâre unbelievable,â you muttered. He was already walking toward the court,âHurry up.â
This man would be the death of you....literally no patience, hesitation or anything like that. There was just basketball.
You stepped onto the court for the first time in a long while. Your grip on the ball felt⌠familiar. Too familiar. Rukawa stood in front of you, eyes sharper than usual. Not as your boyfriend. As a player.
ââŚDonât hold back,â he said. That was it. No soft words. No careful handling. Because he didnât see you as fragile. He saw you as competition. And weirdlyâ That meant more. You moved first. Fast. Faster than he expected. Because for a split secondâ You got past him.
And thatâs when it happened: A flicker and a quick shift. Rukawaâs eyes lit up. With excitement? The game didnât last long. It didnât need to.
By the end, both of you were breathing harder, the tension in the air thickânot awkward, but charged. Rukawa straightened, brushing his hair back slightly,ââŚYou stopped playing.. seriously.â
Not a question. A statement. You looked away,ââŚYeah.â
ââŚWhy?â
There it was. Simple. Blunt.
You hesitated,âIt stopped being fun.â
He frowned slightly. That⌠didnât make sense to him. Basketball was everything. How could it not be fun?
ââŚThen make it fun again.â
You blinked. âThatâs it?â you asked.
âThatâs it.â Of course it was. Rukawa didnât overcomplicate things. If something mattered, you kept going. If something felt wrong, you fixed it. Simple. He grabbed the ball again, spinning it once in his hand before tossing it to you,âAgain.â
You caught it automatically,ââŚYouâre not even going to say anything else?â
âNo.â
A pause.ThenâââŚYouâre good.â
It was quiet. Almost reluctant. But coming from him? Stern, serious Rukawa....It might as well have been a full speech. Did anything change??
No really. If anything, he got worse. More one-on-one games. More âagain.â More late evenings in the gym.
But sometimesâWhen you made a shot he didnât expectâYouâd catch it. That tiny, almost invisible smirk. And honestly? That was better than any MVP title.
Hanamichi Sakuragi
You knew you couldn't keep it a secret forever. Especially not from Hanamichi. He was so curious AND your boyfriend. So the secret wasnât supposed to come out like this.
âWAITâYOU WERE AN MVP?!â
You flinched as Hanamichi Sakuragiâs voice echoed across the entire gym,âSakuragiâlower your voice!â
âNO!!â he pointed at you dramatically,âMy girlfriend was some basketball legend and DIDNâT TELL ME?!â
âIt wasnât a big dealâ,â you tried to calm down his excitment.
âNOT A BIG DEAL?!â he clutched his head,âIâve been calling myself a genius this whole time and youâre secretlyââ
He froze. Then gasped,ââŚA rival.â
You blinked,âThatâs your takeaway?â
âONE-ON-ONE!! RIGHT NOW!!,â he demanded. You really shouldâve said no. Like, why did you even think about saying yes...?
Five minutes later, you were on the court. Sakuragi grinned, full confidence,âPrepare yourself! Youâre about to witness true genius!â
You moved first: Rather Quick and super clean technique. You slipped past him and scored easily. Silence. You turnedâ He was frozen,ââŚNo way.â
Then immediatelyââTHAT DOESNâT COUNT!!â
You sighed,âIt absolutely does.â
âREMATCH!!â
The second round went worse for him. When you scored again, he just stared at youâwide-eyed,ââŚYouâre actually amazing.â
It came out quieter than usual. You softened,ââŚI told you.â
âTHIS IS AMAZING!!â he exploded right after,âMY GIRLFRIEND IS STRONG?! THAT MEANS I PICKED RIGHT!!â
ââŚThatâs your conclusion?â
âOF COURSE!âHe grabbed the ball again, grinning like crazy,âFrom now on, we train together!â
âThat sounds exhausting,â you admitted with a little smile on your lips.
âItâs an honor!âAs he ran ahead, already shouting about beating you next time, you couldnât help smiling. Only Hanamichi Sakuragi would find out you were a former MVPâŚand somehow make it about his greatness.
Ryota Miyagi
Ryota found out in the most him way possible. No, not from you. Not from a serious conversation, like it should have been. But from overhearing two upperclassmen whispering: ââshe was MVP, like, multiple yearsââ//âSeriously? That quiet girl?â
Ryota froze mid-stepâŚMVP? What was he even hearing?
___ _ _ _
Later, he found you sitting in the gym, tying your shoes. The big grey ones you loved so much. Ryouta always tried to palm off new ones on you whenever you went to buy some together. But you seemed to love them.
You sat there casually. Too casual.
ââŚHey.â
You looked up,âOh, hey Ryouta.â
He crossed his arms, trying to look normalâand failing just a little. ââŚYou got something you wanna tell me?â
You blinked,âAbout?â
ââŚMVP.â
Silence. Ah. So thatâs how.
ââŚOh,â you said quietly,âThat.â
Ryota stared at you. Waiting. You shrugged lightly,âYeah. I used to play. Thats it really.â
âThatâs not âused to play,ââ he said immediately,âThatâs dominate the entire court. For YEARS...â
You winced slightly,ââŚIt wasnât a big deal.â
He squinted at you,âYeah, no. I donât believe that for a second.â
There was a pause. Then he sighed, running a hand through his hair,ââŚYou didnât tell me.â
It wasnât accusatory. Just⌠confused. Did he even know you??
You looked away,âDidnât think it mattered anymore.â
Ryota watched you for a second longer. ThenâHe grabbed a ball and bounced it once,ââŚPlay me. Show me that greatness of yours. You owe me...â
You groaned,âOf course youâd say that.â
âWhat? I gotta see it for myself,â he smirked,âMy girlfriendâs been hiding skills like that? Thatâs illegal.â
You stood up and took the ball.
And for a momentâ You hesitated. Ryota noticed. But he didnât push you. Just spun the ball in his hand and said, more quietly this timeâââŚNo pressure. Just play.â
You moved first: Sharp, just like your muscle memory never left. Ryota reacted instantlyâbut even he didnât expect how easily you slipped past him,ââŚWhoaââ
You scored. Clean. In a dominating way.
He stared at you. A slow grin spread across his face,âOkay⌠thatâs kinda crazy.â
You huffed softly,âTold you.â
âNah,â he shook his head, stepping closer, eyes lit up,âYou didnât tell me that. In fact you didnt tell me anything....â
There was no jealousy, also no weird tension..He was, well excited. Very much so. Pure, genuine excitement.
âAgain,â he said, already ready. You laughed,âYouâre not even surprised?â
âI am,â he admitted,âBut itâs cool.â
A heartbeat. Then, with a crooked smileâââŚGuess I gotta work harder now. Canât have my girlfriend outshining me.â
You rolled your eyes, but your chest felt lighter. And as you played again, Ryota didnât treat you differently. Heidnât put distance between you.
If anythingâHe just played harder. And stayed a little closer.
He finally understood why you loved those old shoes so much: they were a testament to hard work, passion and love for the sport. They were a testament to your greatness in the sport.
Hisashi Mitsui
Well your boyfriend Mitsui found out the worst way possible about the little secret you tried to keep. He found out publicly. With far too many witnesses.
âWaitâYOU were that MVP?!â
You froze mid-step as someone from another class pointed at you, a magazine in hand. Your photoâunmistakably youâstared back from the page.
And right beside you Mitsui blinked,ââŚHuh?â
You turned slowly,ââŚMitsuiââ
âHold on,â he cut in, grabbing the magazine. His eyes scanned it quickly, then snapped back to you,âThis MVP⌠is you?â
ââŚYeah.â
Silence.
âYOU NEVER TOLD ME?!â
You flinched,âCan you not yellââ
âIâM YOUR BOYFRIEND!â he shot back,âI think I deserve to know if Iâm dating a basketball monster!â
âIt wasnât importantââ
âNot important?!â he ran a hand through his hair, clearly spiraling. âIâve been out here struggling to get back into shape, and youâre justâwhatâsecretly amazing?!â
You sighed, looking away,ââŚI donât play anymore.â
That stopped him,ââŚWhy?â You hesitated,âIt got complicated.â
He frowned slightly. Didnât push you to tell him more about your reasons. He also didnât joke, as he would usually. He just⌠looked at you. Then exhaled,ââŚYouâre seriously something else Y/n.â
You blinked,âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â âIt means,â he said, tapping the magazine, âyou were this good⌠and just walked away like it was nothing.â
âIt wasnât nothing,âyou stated. âI know,âHis tone softenedâjust a little. There was a pause. Then Mitsui suddenly smirked,ââŚAlright.â
You narrowed your eyes,âWhy do I feel like Iâm not going to like what you say next?â âBecause you know me,â he shot back instantly. Then he grabbed a ball from the rack and tossed it to you,âPlay me.â
You groaned,âOf course.â
âWhat? You expect me to just accept this peacefully?â he grinned. âNo way. I need to see what Iâm dealing with.â
You stepped onto the court. It had been a while. But the moment you dribbled, it all came back. And Mitsui noticed immediately. ââŚSo itâs like that, huh,â he muttered, eyes sharpening.
You moved. He followed. You shot, clean score. He froze for half a second. Then laughed. Actually laughed,ââŚDamn.â
It was genuine admiration,âYouâre incredible.â
The words came out easy, so full of honesty. You looked at him, a little surprised. ââŚThatâs it?â
âWhat, you want me to be mad?â he scoffed,âPlease. If anythingââ He spun the ball in his hand, grin returning,ââthis just makes things more interesting.â
You sighed, but a smile tugged at your lips,âYouâre impossible Mitsu.â
âAnd youâve been holding out on me,â he shot back,âSo now youâre making up for it.â
âHow?â
âBy playing with me,âAnd as he stepped closerâfocused, competitive, but lighter than beforeâMitsui looked at you like heâd just discovered something exciting. Something worth chasing.
âCâmon,â he said, tossing you the ball again,âOne more. Gotta get them muscles back in shape super star.â
Kiminobu Kogure
It came out quietlyâlike most things involving you. Kogure and you were more of the quiet type. Youâd rather spend a relaxed afternoon in the library than go out partying with the others until the early hours. But as the saying goes, still waters run deep. And in your case, that couldnât be more true. Because there was something you hadnât told him yet.
âOh, you didnât know?â someone said casually,âY/n used to be MVP. Multiple times.â
Kogure paused mid-conversation with his friend, blinking behind his glasses as he turned to you,ââŚIs that true?â
You hesitated, then nodded,âWell....It was a while ago. I thought it doesnt matter anymore...â
Kogure smiled softlyârather thoughtful,âThat explains a lot, actually.â
You frowned slightly,âIt does?â
âThe way you watch my games,â he said gently,âYouâre always noticing things most people would miss.â
You looked away, a little embarrassed,ââŚI didnât think it mattered anymore.â
He shook his head, still smiling,âIt does. Itâs part of who you are. I can sense and see that.â
There was no pressure in his voice, no demandâjust quiet understanding. Also a hint of curiosity. ââŚIf you ever feel like playing again,â he added, adjusting his glasses, âIâd really like to watch.â
And somehow, that simple, sincere reaction meant more than any shock or praise ever could.

pairing: Rukawa Kaede x fem!reader
summary: Rader is super sarcastic, a bit arrogant, and actually just like Rukawa. Because sheâs been made to do community service â for falling asleep in class yet again â sheâs ended up at the basketball club. But because she and Rukawa are constantly bickering sarcastically, itâs more of a punishment for the team. Except that feelings are slowly starting to develop.
genre: romance kind of...maybe this story needs a part two???
word count: 3.9k
You didnât even mean to end up here. Thatâs the funniest part. One moment you were slumped over your desk, half-asleep during algebra for what your teacher swore was the last time, and the next you were being toldâvery calmly, very cruellyâthat youâd be âhelping out the basketball club after school until further notice.â
Community service, the headmaster called it. You called it exile. You simply couldnât be a genius if you didnât sleep during the day and rest at night after all that studying. Ugh, the teachers just didn't get that they'd be better off if they'd just left you to it. In your opinion, that was just embarrassing. Who on earth would punish their best pupil?
___ _ _ :
And now, every afternoon, youâre standing inside the Shohoku gym with a whistle blowing, sneakers squeaking, and a group of sweaty teenagers pretending they donât dread your presence. Except one: Rukawa Kaede.
Heâs exactly as everyone described him: annoyingly talented, annoyingly quiet, annoyingly pretty in a way that makes it worse. And, unfortunately for both of you, he looks at you like youâre mildly inconvenient weather.
âYouâre late,â you say the first time he walks in after practice starts.
âI wasnât talking to you,â he replies, already grabbing a ball. âI know. I was talking to your sense of punctuality. Or better, the lack of it. Does it also sleep through alarms?â
He pauses just long enough to glance at you,ââŚTch.â
It becomes a pattern. You criticize his laziness. He ignores you. You call him arrogant. He calls you âloud.â You correct his footwork. He corrects your existence in the general vicinity of basketball. And somehow, no one stops you. Because weirdly, it works. Practice gets sharper when youâre around. The team hates it, but they also get better. Which means Coach just lets it happen with the expression of a man watching a controlled fire.
Mitsui mutters once, âTheyâre gonna kill each other.â
Kogure replies,âOr fall in love.â He clearly reads too many romance novels. He gets elbowed immediately.
___ _ _ _
It starts small. A water bottle appearing beside you without explanation. A basketball rolling back to your feet after you donât ask for it. You donât mention it. He doesnât either. Instead, you say, âYou passed too early. Were you trying to be helpful or just bored?â
And he says,âYou were slow.â And that should be the end of it. Except it isnât. Because when youâre not there one afternoonâwhen youâve been sent home sick with a note saying rest or youâll actually die in the hallway, apparentlyâthe gym feels louder. More chaotic. Less controlled. And Rukawa is noticeably worse.
Not very dramatically. Not enough for anyone to accuse him. Just enough for people whoâve been watching closely to notice.
âHe keeps looking at the door,â Miyagi says at one point. âHeâs not,â Rukawa says flatly, replying to his friends remark. But he does it again ten seconds later.
___ _ _ _
The next day, you come back like nothing happened. âWow,â you say, dropping your bag by the bleachers. âYou all survived without me. Impressive. Did you have to downgrade the IQ requirement to compensate?â
âWelcome back,â Mitsui says, relieved. Rukawa says nothing. But heâs looking at you. A second too long. Then he turns away. Way too fast.
Itâs only laterâafter practice, when the gym is mostly empty and the sun is spilling in low through the windowsâthat it slips. Youâre packing up equipment, still talking,âYou know, I was gone one day and everything fell apart. I think that says a lot about your emotional dependency on me.â
âIt didnât fall apart,â Rukawa says. âYou stared at the door like it was going to give you answers to your life.â
âIt was just distracting.â
âFrom what?â He doesnât answer immediately. Thatâs unusual. As usual, he always has a clever retort ready. You finally glance over. Heâs holding a ball under one arm, eyes half-lidded like alwaysâbut not quite as detached as usual. ââŚYou werenât here,â he says.
âYeah, I noticed. I was the one not here,â you reply sarcastically, as usual. A pause. Then, like itâs nothing, like itâs just another boring fact he could drop and forget: âIt was quieter.â
You blink,ââŚAre you complaining that I talk too much?â
âNo,âAnother pause. Longer this time. Then, quieter: âIt was worse.â
That stops you. Because that doesnât fit in the usual categories. Not insult. Not annoyance. Not even indifference pretending to be irritation. Just⌠honest Rukawa. Which is rather unusual for him to speak of his emotions and thoughts freely. You recover quickly, of course.
âOh wow. Rukawa Kaede misses me. Should I alert the national news or just tattoo it on my forehead?â He should roll his eyes. He should walk away. Instead, he says, almost absently: âYou shouldâve come back sooner.â
Thatâs when the gym goes silent. Not physically. But socially. Like every other person in the room just collectively stops existing on purpose. Miyagi slowly lowers the basketball in his hands. Mitsui looks like heâs trying not to smile. Kogure looks like heâs watching something inevitable finally arrive.
You, meanwhile, are doing what you always do. Deflecting,ââŚWow. That sounded like concern. Are you sick? Should I call a doctor? Or is this just your personality malfunctioning?â
Rukawa finally looks at you properly. âI donât like it when youâre not here,â he says. And then, as if realizing heâs said too much, adds: âBecause youâre distracting.â
Silence. You stare at him. He stares back. Like he always does. Neither of you moves. Then you scoff, because of course you do,âThatâs the worst confession Iâve ever heard.â
His expression doesnât change,ââŚConfession?â
The word lands differently for him. Like he didnât mean it that way. Like he didnât realize it could be taken that way. And now heâs stuck in it. As are you. Behind you, someone makes a sound that might be Mitsui choking on laughter. But neither of you turns around. Because for once, thereâs nothing to say that doesnât change everything slightly.
