ALAN SCOTT OF COURSE i love almost the entire jsa with very very few exceptions but alan's my all time all time character no matter what

one of the best things about the jsa is that a lot of completely deranged friendship combinations just work and make for some extremely entertaining reading so i think you can get away with pairing off anybody with just about anybody and it'll be hilarious but. if i really had to choose. i think i'll go with rex tyler & charles mcnider based on their canon dynamic alone (doctor trying to stop patient from killing himself, patient mistaking that for friendship etc)

10. What are your head cannons about [Character, IF, etc]?

kyle rayner is autistic and probably has been diagnosed since he was a kid (given that one mention of special ed classes and such). uhhhh. hal was forty-six when he died in 1996 and by god he returned that age. both of hal's brothers are alive and they've probably suspected he's gay ever since he started his drifting at the age of twenty something (results pending). hal fucked up his knee something awful in the coast city fight with mongul and that's also something he came back with. kyle and jennie are permanently on & off dating (but mostly on). alan has an entire room in his penthouse dedicated to his model train collection. okay i think that's the extent of my gl-related hcs

hal's only possible happy ending is still being supremely broke but living in a hangar with his plane like maverick in the new top gun. nothing military related though, just his air taxi business from the 1990 run. THAT'S IT

HANS VON HAMMER

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

as the specialest boy in wwi, hans has all the hobbies of a typical aristocrat aka fencing, horseback riding, skiing etc etc but the thing is i get the impression he wouldn't consider these hobbies at all as much as things he merely does to get his mind off the war every now & again as there's no real pleasure or passion in them

i think, when he's found himself an unlikely survivor after the war, he does collect planes from all across the board & occasionally tinkers with them. i'll admit that's wholly inspired by his collection in dc challenge but it's a solid take as far as i'm concerned, hans would never be able to stay away from planes or flying when the sky's the only place he feels weightless

ൠ - random headcanon

during the long nights spent in the black forest he sometimes snuggles up with the wolf by whatever fire he's built. i won't accept anything else, the one consistent trace of affection in hans' entire life is from a random feral wolf that he's spent four years getting to know and not quite taming. This Is My Belief.

♡ - romantic headcanon

hans von hammer is gay. that's non-negotiable. and i think he's been a little bit in love with every other enemy ace that's ever shown him kindness & understanding, like the hangman during that entire ssws arc, but that's as far as anything's ever gone. yknow, stolen moments on enemy territory.

after the war, i can imagine a single attempt at playing normal but he quickly becomes a complete recluse & that's the end of that

☾ - sleep headcanon

INSOMNIA CENTRAL!!!!! we've read more than half of all his appearances and hans is yet to sleep without nightmares or frankly at all. the literal only time he ever slept well was with the hangman! and that's inexplicably canon! i don't think he ever gets much better, hans gets used to just enough sleep to keep him going

CONNOR HAWKE

connor was at his happiest in the apartment his mother left him in san fran, where he lived with eddie & master jansen for a while. in an ideal timeline -- and our own little earth -- that's still where he's living, with occasional trips back to the ashram whenever he feels he needs to ground himself or a few visits per month to kyle over in nyc

I'M JUST GONNA GET IT OUT OF THE WAY: CONNOR SHOULD NEVER REALLY FORGIVE OLLIE FOR ABANDONING/REJECTING HIM.

i don't think connor would ever want or even be able to seamlessly blend into the group of people ollie's surrounded himself with & seemingly sees as a sort of family without some small part of him growing to resent him for choosing them but not him. that's precisely why the family connor builds for himself, the people he grows to love and be loved by, is so absolutely vital to who he is as a person

connor's real mother & father have the worst track record in history but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have his grandpa, eddie, master jansen, kyle & any friends he might gain while living in san francisco (like his neighbour mia!). he definitely comes to see eddie as the closest thing he's got to a father figure and loves him as much

★ - sad headcanon

i think the above qualifies for both happy & sad in various ways honestly but. i think ollie's rejection is something that'll always weight on connor while simultaneously being something he learns to live with. it's never easy, not even during the rare times ollie tries, but he eventually comes to understand it has no bearing on him as a person even if it still makes him sad to think about

connor's favourite thing in the world is movie nights with kyle because kyle's seen every nerd movie ever made in human history and connor's seen none but it's really how much kyle's enjoying showing him all this that delights connor endlessly

other likes: subjecting eddie & kyle to vegan home-cooked meals that they can't refuse because connor made them, archery despite everything, meditation in master jansen's company, snow days in new york because he's so used to california

3. cold hands in warm hands + 43. “we’ll see each other again” kisses

(takes place after the phantom stranger 1987 miniseries)

Stranger comes and goes as he pleases. Cassandra Craft had explained in hushed, gentle tones, the one time she’d met Bruce for tea and coffee -- as preference allowed -- in one of those quaint little cafes next to the university, that it was his burden to bear. The curse dictated, she’d said, that no attachments were to be formed. Stranger manoeuvred around it to the best of his ability.

Truth be told, Bruce had already grasped that much from sudden, sorrowful departures and reappearances in the dead of night, startling like Eclipso had once been then acutely soothing in turn. The periods of quiet, however, have grown longer and longer and Bruce knows something had shifted into place when Stranger had defied his masters, a shade of humanity that hasn’t quite worn off.

Days have turned into weeks and Stranger has stuck around, clumsily playing at the goings-on of mortal men and pointing out the beauty of the world in places Bruce had never thought to look. It’s an existence he’d hadn’t tasted before, not with Mona nor when the darkness had gripped his heart and sunk into it. Stranger, who is warmth and sunlight and something indistinctly divine, has taught him much about Eclipso and wishes that do not -- cannot -- damn him.

It’s been three years. Bruce makes it home in the middle of the night, smelling like four consecutive airports and a shirt that’s yet to be introduced to the concept of laundry, vaguely queasy from the trip. At the sight of the manor, he forgets how to breathe and Ra’s’ training does precious little to help.

He remembers that last night on the rooftop by Harvey’s side, moonlight and heartbreak. The thought paralyses him. For the longest time, Bruce means to turn back.

Instead, the light in the foyer turns on. Alfred must be awake.

In the ensuing weeks, once he’s done giving his butler all manner of heart attacks, Bruce relearns bits and pieces of polite society. He sorely misses the mountains, even misses the absurdly early mornings and the cold air and the strict regime. A sense of mindless purpose is what he’d been given and, as always, Gotham tears it all down.

He’d called Harvey, that first night, and they’d talked until the early hours of the morning, sixteen all over again. It grows into a routine.

Bruce never asks about Gilda, never asks to meet up either, terrified that he no longer knows how to be what Harvey needs. In his absence, the world had continued. It’s hard to tell what he’d expected.

That’s how he ends up at the party. As a rule, Bruce’s not big on parties. He is, however, up for just about anything Harvey wants to do and there’s no occasion more momentous than his best friend making DA, let alone being the city’s youngest district attorney. The fear persists, dampened only slightly by dizzying excitement.

Harvey, when Bruce does spot him amongst press and well-wishers, is inexplicably alone. With no Gilda in sight, three and a half years of grief burn to ashes. Bruce doesn’t quite know what to do with himself, wonders briefly whether dedicating so much time to a ninja cult might’ve been too rash a decision. He stews in the uncertainty, a still full glass of champagne clutched in one hand, until Gotham’s very own shining star makes his way over.

Up close, Harvey’s still the kid Bruce’s grown up with and his heart jumps in his throat. On the subject of rash decisions, Bruce throws himself into a hug at first sight, breathing out a soft sigh that sounds an awful lot like Harv in the crook of his best friend’s neck.

God, he’s here.

He’s really here.

And he’s spilled his champagne on what might be Harvey’s best suit.

They’re laughing as they part, though Bruce’s flushed red and he’s never seen anything as bright as Harvey’s smile.

“Missed you, pal,” Harvey says, still laughing as he throws an arm around Bruce, keeps him close for a moment longer. There’s something different in the way he carries himself, back a little straighter, gestures just a shade more deliberate. It’s Harvey nonetheless. Bruce’s never had anyone else.

In the bathroom, jacket off and dabbing at his shirt with the paper towels Bruce kindly provides, Harvey is entirely himself, looking faintly tired under the fluorescent lights and no less handsome for it. “Do you know how long I-- Fuck, Bruce, I didn’t think I’d see you again,” he says.

The phone calls, mostly cordial, are nothing compared to the real thing.

“I’m sorry,” Bruce offers, knowing full well he won’t ever make up for the wasted years. There’s relief in saying it.

Harvey abandons his champagne-stained disaster in favour of turning towards Bruce, a touch taller even in now, and gently cradling his face. It’s almost enough.

“If you want me to--”

2. Who they want to please the most.

HENRY. THIS GOES WITHOUT SAYING. yes, yes, i’ve talked endlessly about jordan’s TELL ME I’M GOOD face in the hospital scene but i think his nearly manic burst of enthusiasm and subsequent utterly crestfallen look is like, the most obvious clue in the world to how much he needs henry’s approval. beyond that, jordan’s the “leader” (supposedly!) so he’s in a relatively, let’s say, untouchable position except for the simple fact that he’s only in charge because henry allows it, as per certain neil interviews. maintaining this precarious balance is based entirely around pleasing henry and that’s not even taking jordan’s own feelings into account (and he’s got a whole lot of those)

10. How they deal with pain.

jordan just shoves everything down in the interest of his own survival. that’s part of why he’s so focused on the mission, if he stops and thinks about it, if he stops for even a second at all he falls apart. he’s visibly very emotional (he’s, in fact, the most emotional character on the show besides courtney) but simultaneously it’s clear everything’s very tightly reined in by necessity alone. jordan knows he’s gotta keep it together for cameron, i personally believe that’s his only motivation for just about all that’s happened. we’ve seen the way he’s big time disassociating in episode 12 until henry says his name telepathically & grabs his shoulder. he’s literally frozen. that’s a good indicator as any that he’s likely to fall apart if he dwells on his pain & grief

24. What they wish they could change about themselves

i think. i think jordan would love to stop depending on henry’s approval so much? going off what i said above, i feel like what bothers jordan most about himself is definitely his inability to like. learn to live with the void christine’s death left in him. like even neil calls it a “vacuum of a hole inside him” and that’s exactly it! that’s exactly why he falls for barbara too! i absolutely believe what jordan wants most is for that. not to exist
