Shattering the Broken Pieces
"Time holds promises, curses, the meant-to-be's and the what not's, lingering, slightly into the open, waiting to unravel the events that can make or break a person."
She bitterly swallowed the lump on her throat as she waited for her father's defenses weigh down on her. But John Lee is John Lee. She knew it'd be a challenge, a fistful flight to the moon to convince her father to call Lorraine and ask her to come home. But just like how Lorraine had refused her own and their mom's request for countless of times, here's John Lee, owning up to the kind of man that he is, the kind of father he'd been to his two daughters.
"Dad, mom's condition's not getting any better! She needs to see her. Can't you at least do this for mom?"
There were too many words that she wanted to blurt out to him. Things that she wished she could tell her father but she kept mum on the other line, holding her breathe as she watched her mom's weak breathing on her bed.
"Let her be, Samantha Rayne. Just attend to your mother." And that was it. John Lee got off the phone like her mother's situation didn't matter more compared to their business.
"Fine," she muttered under her breath, putting the phone down and walked beside her mother's bed.
She knew she got her father upset when Victor broke off their engagement. But that wasn't her fault anymore, she realized after days of inducing herself with shopping and caffeine. It wasn't her fault that Victor found another woman to spend his time with, enough to throw away those 4 years of mutual understanding. But who was she kidding when all this time, she knew too that she had been convincing herself that none of it was her fault when it was her who hadn't been with him for months. She wasn't over that and here, came another event when she found out that her mother had been sick all along.
Samantha felt her heart sank as she neared her mother's sleeping figure. She got frailer, weaker - the cruel effects of her therapy. If only she could tell Lorraine about their mother's disease, everything would be easier. If only... but she could. She could have told her sister even after finding it out herself. But everytime she would try, dialing her number before the sun rises at the land of the morning calm, her mother's words of caution would enter her mind, stopping her from doing so.
She silently got off from her mother's bed and went out of the room, momentarily giving Emily the luxury of time to rest. Who could she call this time? Alyssa? Bellatrix? Setesh? Her friends seemed too far off her world that she couldn't even feel that there's anyone to talk to. She doesn't have any friends around and Samantha never felt more alone than now, barely holding on to faith and the belief that once her mother gets better, she'd be the one to avenge for her. Because that's what mothers do for their daughters, right? You'll fight through it, mom. For me. Please do this for me.
Unknowingly, she was gripping on her phone too hard that she was already calling the one she's contacted last on her phone. It couldn't be anyone but Lorraine, whose number she has dialed a few times this morning. It was already too late to end the call as she brought it to her right ear and listened to her voice. She missed Lorraine. Oh just how many times had she told her that from time to time and words just can't seem to lessen how much she longs for her sister's presence.
"Lorraine..." she faintly began, her voice shuddering, careful to not show any sign that could make her worry.
