      khan wants nothing to do with these people, but unfortunately, he doesn’t have a choice. they have his people, his crew, his family. & there is NOTHING he would not do for his family. if it means betraying his own morality, so be it.

      he DESPISES section 31 with every fiber of his being. this organization had ruined lives, turned children into monsters. he doesn’t trust them one bit. but even so, here he is. waiting, as instructed, to meet his partner for the upcoming mission. 

      he knows the drill by now. keep quiet. follow orders. don’t deviate from the mission. the only difference is in who he will be working with. as the doors slide open, khan’s gaze fixes on the man who enters before him.

      Dropping into the seat opposite him in the mess hall, Nyota takes a sip of her coffee before offering him a smile, setting her PADD down on the table. “Hey, Sulu,” She keeps one hand curled loosely around the warm mug of coffee, as the other swipes to lock the PADD in front of her. Her work can wait for a little, time to take a break. She’s due back on the Bridge soon.

     “I’ve been meaning to ask,” She pauses a moment, before flicks a glance across the table at him. “Would you be free to spar with me at some point?” She’d put herself forward for advanced combat training, but it’s going to be a while before they’re actually able to get back for her to do it. 

Nervous fingers tangle together in knots before they separate to smooth down the rich blue of his dress uniform. 

In the years since leaving the academy, they have faced a great deal together. There were times when Pavel was convinced that they might not make it out alive, though he had never said so out loud. There were victories and there were losses. He has grown a great deal and is a long way from the child he once was.

And yet, this still raises an old terror that he though long shaken-off.
