Breaking Bad - Ozymandias spoilers
I noticed that for a brief moment after tonightâs episode of Breaking Bad the hashtag #toetheline was trending. I knew as soon as the episode ended that Waltâs phone with Skyler would be completely misread. Reading some of the stuff that was floating around in the #toetheline tagâŠI was right!
First, letâs be clear here. Walt, evil bastard though he may be, actually did something selfless in his phone call with Skyler. He acted like a mean, domineering, and controlling asshole on the phone for Skylerâs benefit. He admitted to everything while putting all the blame on himself. The cops listening would assume from the things he said and the words he chose that he was abusive and she was forced (which is pretty true anyway.)
Walt didnât actually mean any of the things that he said about Skyler not toeing the line or being a stupid bitch. He was crying during their call. The fact of the matter is that he was putting on an act.
Youâre misreading that scene if you think it was anything other than Walt trying to save exonerate Skyler. If you concurrently believe that what happened was Walt âputting Skyler in her place,â not only are you wrong, youâre pretty much a terrible person. Along the lines of what Anna Gunn wrote about Skyler - peopleâs opinions of Skyler as a bitch reflects more on them as a person than Skyler as a character.
Here ends my rant⊠btwâŠ. Team Jesse.
