What are the effects of ageing on the skin? How can we protect the skin from ageing?
Changes in the skin are among the most visible signs of aging. With aging the skin loses its elasticity and also there would be thinning of the dermis and epidermis layers of the skin. The skin would become dry as the skin cannot produce the moisture it needed to stay healthy due to the decrease in the production of oil by the sebaceous gland. This would lead to dry and itchy skin resulting in wrinkles.
Due to ageing the skin becomes thin and clear. There would also be decrease in the number of sweat glands, blood vessels and nerve endings which would result in decreased sensation of skin.
Premature ageing of the skin will depend upon number of factors like environmental factors, genetic makeup, lifestyle, diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, long-term exposure to the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight, etc
