Hello internet, assuming that this one day makes it onto the blog. My name is Cheyne, like Shane, but cooler and much more unique. I work as a skiing instructor for a summer camp. My staff story begins as any other normal day. I had seen three or four gators coasting along the weed lines and I was already sunburned on the second day of the job. Nothing out of the ordinary. It was the last activity session of the day and was assisting a camper who was attempting to kneeboard around our section of the lake. I was about chest-deep in the water when my foot struck a hard, smooth object that was protruding from the murky bottom. Utterly befuddled, my mind raced, considering the possible identity of this conundrum. However, at this point, in the midst of my confusion, the camper that I was assisting signaled the boat driver that he was ready, and he was promptly wrenched away from me. He made it about fifteen feet before tumbling off the board. My instructor instincts took over and I sped through the water, using my years of swimming prowess to cover the distance in a matter of seconds. After ensuring that the camper was safe, I gave a few final tips, set the camper back up and sent him on his way before turning around and facing my newfound enemy. Now, to clarify, this object made itself my enemy by being a very hard object in an area where the boat could possibly run it over and have a prop broken. Therefore, this foreign object had to go. I braced myself as I began to slowly trudge towards my nemesis. Suddenly, it attacked! As my foot stretched fourth, searching through the murky depths to find this mysterious monster, it struck, tearing flesh from my right second toe. It created a gash that was about four centimeters deep. I pulled back, horrified at the prospect of what this… this thing could be. Many possibilities raced through my mind, each more horrifying than the last. Perhaps it was the plug for the lake, and removing it would cause a massive vortex, which would suck me into it and send me plunging into the watery depths below! I felt it with my foot again and I found a circular opening. Perhaps it was the outflow pipe for a secret underground nuclear plant and I was already too far irradiated to survive. At any moment, I could begin sprouting another head or mutating into a giant insect. Suppressing my fear, I hoisted my hand into the murky depths. As I hoisted the object to the surface, relief flooded me. It was nothing more than a toilet, minus the tank. As I dragged my newly acquired prize back to the dock, I knew that there was now nothing I couldn’t face. I will now be forever king over my fears, sitting upon my porcelain throne.
His words, not mine. Also, about two weeks later, they found a bathtub. I’m beginning to think that there’s a village of merpeople living in Lake Harris.
