Dead Sea [Coast Stage] (Skeleton Boomerang [2017])
Here’s an indie game with a soundtrack I listened to last year, quickly rising to one of my favorites, right up there with Klonoa: Door to Phantomile in platformer soundtracks, although for mostly different reasons. Ever present throughout the constant Drums is a stylish Elec Bass, and that’s just 1 of the main instruments carrying part of this incredible composition; there’s also a Xylophone that simply has light taps in the beginning that you might not notice at 1st, but it sure as hell will make itself known soon after, and it’s thanks to this Xylophone that this top-tier soundtrack as a whole gives “cartoony skeleton” vibes, while the Elec Bass is consistently used for some real catchy complimentary tunes.
Having finished the game VERY recently, I’d call it slightly above average, with a high skill ceiling for those interested via its titular boomerang weapon and combo system, but you really do need to listen to the soundtrack, I’m not doing it justice by featuring only the 1st stage track from it.
If you need more convincing, try looking at the Steam page’s trailer, featuring just part of another high-tier track that also utilizes the aforementioned sounds well, titled “Disco Necropolis”! The roguelite (An aspect I feel fits the combo system better, I may add) Vampire Hunter expansion also has “Gelatin Party” as another impressive 1st stage theme, the soundtrack really doesn’t stop producing what the internet calls “bangers” these days
(Length before loop: 1.5+ minutes)
