Blue: (Pay attention, @pureangleda!) Blue is a great dad. He’s excited, he’s helpful, he’s ready to teach his kids all kinds of cool stuff…He really wants to do his share of the childcare (although diapers may get him the first few times; monsters don’t have that problem…) He’s also the one who picks up the kids and spins them around and makes them laugh. Going to the playground with Daddy Blue is a good time! He loves pushing his kids on the swings and playing Tickle Monster on the slide. (Was I the only one whose dad did that?) Basically, he’s awesome. (You married a good man, Ray.)
Stretch: Man, he is nervous through the whole pregnancy and the first few months. But the first time your little munchkin grabs his finger, he is sold. He is gone, absolutely in love with that child for the rest of their life. He insists on reading to the kids every night from the first day they’re home from the hospital. He also buys all the punny little onesies for baby, even though they’ll outgrow them in a few months. When the kids are a little older, Stretch does some roughhousing and silly play, but mostly that’s left to Uncle Blue. Stretch is the one who teaches the kids how to tell jokes and how to play silly pranks. Nothing dangerous—just silly stuff.
Black: For the first time, coffee won’t get him through the sleepless nights. He insists on getting up with the baby every time they cry (because he’s used to odd hours and late nights; don’t you worry, my dear, he’ll handle it) but by the third month, he’s absolutely worn out. You and Rus and his superiors at work finally have an intervention and Black has to cut down his work hours. You get him and the baby on a good sleep schedule. Things get better when the kiddo gets older, but you find out that Black is quite strict about school. He’s the PTA dad, with all that that implies. He really wants his kids to do well.
Rus: He’s nervous, like Stretch. He tries to help out during the baby stage, but sometimes he feels like there’s not a lot he can do. He absolutely adores his child, though. You catch him sleeping next to the cradle because he was watching the baby sleep. He can’t believe that this beautiful child has part of his soul, and part of yours. You guys made this amazing baby! You also catch him telling the baby how much he loves them a lot, and kissing them, and holding them. He helps you document all the milestones and brags to his brother and anybody else who will listen about what his kid did now. (“They can roll over now! They rolled all the way across the playpen! Can you believe it? All the way across!”) When the kids are older, he worries. He’s the dad telling them to be careful jumping on the bridge at the playground. You have to convince him not to put trackers on the kids when they go off to school. They’ll be fine, Rus, really!
All the lads would be great dads, although they might not all initially think so!
