no one thought the age of heroism would die like this. not with an entire country crashing into the crater it was lifted from, the impact decimating the surrounding area for miles in either direction. cities reduced to rubble. thousands dead. thousands more displaced and injured. after months of planning, fighting, wearing themselves thin, the avengers, along with a few new allies, finally defeated the villain of their own making and wiped every known trace of ultron from the face of the earth. they’d won, again, but it cost them everything.
eight years of keeping the world safe from harm. of thwarting alien invasions and insurgencies from radical organizations. eight years of continuously putting themselves on the front lines, driving back the darkness that threatened to sweep over the globe, because the world expected them to. and how did the world repay them? a thunderous cry for accountability, and for their beloved heroes to submit themselves to a higher authority meant to keep them in-line. now the avengers lie and wait, living with their guilt, as discussions begin among the world’s leaders to decide their fate, and the fate of those like them.
but it doesn’t end there. at the beginning of the negotiations for what is being called the sokovia accords, an anonymous source leaked data to the public about the other failures of their heroes, and the threats that still loomed despite their presence. the resurgence of the terrorist organization known as shield, rebuilding quietly under their noses. an outbreak where the infected survivors gained powers. whispers of hydra performing heinous experiments, and government organizations snatching up these inhumans, who are never heard from again.
until they are no longer able to do so, the avengers intend to conduct business as usual as the world spins madly on. despite the negative public opinion, they still have a job to do. And they have to believe that everything they’ve done—everything they’ve been though—wasn’t for nothing.
